Last year, leftist activists repeatedly urged Justice Sonia Sotomayor to retire, hoping Biden could appoint a younger liberal replacement. In addition to her age, health concerns were also a factor. Last year, we learned that Sotomayor travels with a medic due to her Type 1 diabetes, an extraordinary precaution that underscores the seriousness of her condition. Records showed she's required medical assistance during travel and regularly carries medical supplies. While she's managed her diabetes since childhood, at her age the physical and emotional toll of serving on a court where she's perpetually outvoted must weigh heavily.
Once again, Sotomayor expressed frustration with her experiences on the Supreme Court with a conservative majority during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where she admitted just how difficult it is for her to stomach her conservative colleagues on the bench.
“She taught me to look for the best in people,” Sotomayor said of her mother. “That was the lesson that moment gave me, and it’s one I look for in my colleagues.”
Of course, the justice couldn’t resist making it clear how much she disagrees with the Court’s conservative majority. “I don’t agree with them much. At least not with the majority. And they can be really frustrating. And there are moments when I want to scurry out of the room. But I don’t. And what I look for to maintain our collegiality is the good in them,” she explained.
Sotomayor may insist she’s trying to see the good in her fellow justices, but her remarks show just how deep the ideological divide really runs on today’s Court. While she frames it as collegiality, the underlying message is unmistakable: conservatives are a constant source of frustration for her.

Perhaps she should retire!
And state that after all the encouragement she got in the last 5 years, she’s decided to do it, and then thank them all for helping her see things so clearly.
Have a doughnut with sprinkles on me, dear.
She’s also annoyed that she’s now shackled with Katoken. It was a lot more fun with Kagan and Breyer.
And there are moments when I want to scurry out of the room. But I don’t.
Perhaps she should retire!
Justice Thomas might be thinking: “Cry me a river.”
It seems like the nature of the job that some justices will hold one opinion, and others will hold a different opinion.
Sotomayor find herself in this situation and seems to feel that the justices who have an opinion different from her own are somehow EVIL. But she — being, of course, a noble and good person — tries very hard to see the good in her colleagues. What a saint she is!
Actually, if any of the three liberal Justices retires, my money is on Kagan. She is quite competent. It must be frustrating to almost always be on the losing side. Harvard needs a President. What if Harvard offered her the job? She would be perfect as a liberal with friends across the political spectrum. And she previously was the Dean of the law school, so she knows the institution well.
The Wide Latina was an affirmative action pick. That’s the bottom line. Those with really first rate minds on the court must find it difficult to maintain collegiality with her.
Ahem ....
WAS the dimmest bulb. Now, like Carter, she can breathe a sigh of relief.
Is that hair or yarn?
I know I’ve had it with the wide Latinex.
Just like RBG, she’ll serve till she’s carried out no matter who is President.
Sonja ain’t too bright but she knows a good gig when she has one.
She has a big dumb mouth. Scalia and RBG would never say that. Despite their differences they were the best of friends.
Now would be a good time to spend more time with your family.
She should be happy with KBJ - Sonia’s no longer the dumbest member of SCOTUS.
BTW, I drove past the White House and The Capital and The Supreme Court buildings this evening…. Such beautiful structures and such corruption… save for one.
