SEN RAND PAUL: The GOP once knew how to fix the deficit — now they’re losing the battle
Fox News ^ | Sep 10 | Senator Paul

Posted on 09/10/2025 5:20:21 AM PDT by RandFan

GOP leaders historically argued spending cuts, not tax increases, should address national debt

"... In the meantime, Republicans should take with a grain of salt increased revenue and ask themselves whether the goal is to balance a bloated budget with increased taxes or instead limit the size and scope of government. This important question once differentiated conservatives from liberals — I hope the current fad for import taxes doesn’t entice all conservatives to forget the goal of a small, constitutional federal government."

Come ON, already!!!!

How can anyone talk about a deficit with a straight face, considering the billions DOGE revealed about Joe's and O'Bozo's spending wet dream.

Remember what they squandered on BS programs and what that legion of unelected clowns scored during those administrations. We can only guess how much is still being lost and unaccounted for!

Today’s budget problems are much greater and more expensive top cure thanks to the legacies of Obama and Biden. Democrats are correct that increasing tariffs increases prices. But funding OBiden’s welfare state prevents the GOP from funding cures like deporting OBiden’s throng of illegal aliens and fighting OBiden’s unconstitutional regulations in court.

When Paul can cure these problems without spending tax money then he can grouse. Until then he can shut up.

Eventually as more domestic sources come on line because of tariffs the prices will come down.
Your statement is like saying chemotherapy makes sick . Failing to mention it may cure you.

When did the GOP ever know how to control spending? Reagan reprioritized our existential threat from the Soviet bloc over encouraging bad behavior, and his revenue plan worked in the long run (thanks to the whatshisface’s curve), but he never came close to controlling spending. And Eisenhower, Nixon and Bush all lit rockets under the growth of big government.

“””He is sincere.”””””

He is sincere-ly nuts and worthless.

Name something he has actually accomplished.

"...I’m the sponsor of the Penny Plan to fix our spending problem. I’ve introduced and forced votes on amendments to cut trillions in federal spending, including closing down entire agencies..."

Hahahahaha...sponsor of "the Penny Plan".

Schumer sponsors bills, and so do douchebags like Ed Markey, Corey Booker and Dick Durbin. (and all of them have twice as many bills sponsored as the 'hardworking" Rand Paul does) That's how he sticks up for himself.

Pathetic.

Talk is cheap, and he does plenty of it nowadays.

Sick of it. He is worthless.

I would not be at all surprised if you were Rand Paul himself posting on Free Republic as RandFan.

That is about how he rolls, given that pathetic “defense” of himself.

The problem with healthcare is like university tuitions, the government just pays which has resulted in exploding costs for healthcare and drugs. They need to reduce costs significantly. The only way to fix SS and interest is by inflating the dollar and perhaps increasing mortality.

They also need to reduce spending increases driven by wars and environmental regulations.

“voted NO on the Big Beautiful Bill”

Yep, and this is right on time for this little turd.....every couple of months he says something contrary to common sense just to get in the news.

It’s literally the definition of attention seeking behavior.

“Name something he has actually accomplished.”

Well, he IS an eye doctor 🤣

As far as accomplishments on Capitol Hill I can’t think of anything, unless being a little whiney puss chasing cameras and microphones counts.

I think Little Rand would be a good dictator. He has to have everything go only his way. He doesn’t play well with others.

No. I'm sick of Rand Paul. And all the hypocrites who parade under the Libertardian banner. They make me sick and have no business on FR.

Libertarian Party Platform:

National borders: Throw open the borders completely; only a rare individual (terrorist, disease carrier etc.) can be kept from freedom of movement through “political boundaries.” Eliminate the Border Patrol and ICE.

Homosexuals: total freedom in the military, gay marriage, adoption, child custody and everything else.

Abortion: zero restrictions. No impediments full 9 months.

Pornography: no restraints, no restrictions.

Drugs; Meth, Heroin, Crack, marijuana: zero restrictions. Vending machine availability.

Prostitution: legal and unrestricted.

Military Strength; minimal capabilities.

It's easy to see they have nothing in common with conservatives and don't deserve a voice on conservative websites.

If Republicans like Rand can cut spending, great; but Republicans shouldn’t become the tax collectors for democrat spending plans. President Ronald Reagan applied this principle with great success. Republicans before him did not.
