Ole Miss was close to a win and cover, but Kentucky kicked down the back door with a late field goal Robby Kalland
By Robby Kalland 3 hrs ago • 1 min read A year ago, Ole Miss missed out on the College Football Playoff due in no small part to an ugly home loss to Kentucky early in the season. On Saturday, the Rebels went to Lexington seeking a bit of revenge and found themselves in a dog fight again, trailing 10-0 early, before rallying to a 30-23 win.
The line moved from Ole Miss as a 10.5-point favorite to closing as an 8.5-point favorite on the road. Those that got Ole Miss late had visions of going to cover town when the Rebels went up 30-20 late in the fourth quarter, but Kentucky coach Mark Stoops had other ideas.
The Wildcats drove it into Ole Miss territory on their final drive and opted to kick a 39-yard field goal to cut the deficit to seven points with eight seconds left in the game. That gave themselves a chance at a miracle if they recovered an onside kick and completed a Hail Mary, but at minimum it gave the home fans a cover of every number.
After the game, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin -- always aware of the spread -- gave a knowing apology to Ole Miss bettors that laid it with the Rebels, closing his postgame interview by saying: "Sorry to a lot of gamblers there at the end."
I wish Billy Napier would apologize for sucking.
Which would seem the opposite of spitting, but maybe not.
WTF is up with all the spitting. That player needs to be gone with Napier.
Even mentioning gambling smells like game fixing.
I don't root for his teams, but they show up to play football on game day.
Gambling is ruining sports.
They're all fixed.
The primary purpose of spectator sports was always gambling.
“Lane Kiffin — always aware of the spread...”
Why? Doing a little wagering on the side?
You won’t have to worry about that much longer. The AD just got a new contract. Do they have a chance to win any of their next four games? Then they have four more ranked teams down the stretch.
Mike Florio has a book out called “The Shield” about a what if on NFL gambling. I haven’t read it yet but he’s been saying for years gambling will hit the fan with the 💩 someday. The Kindle version is just a dollar and he’s kinda into charity support so I need to order a copy. Florio knows the game and he used to practice law. The NFL is a greedy bunch of butt monkeys so I think he’s right. It’s just a matter of time.
They my be lucky to get to 5-7.
USF has a good team.
How will it hit the fan?
Two people know something, it’s a secret. Anymore past that, it’s a scandal. It almost burnt down Ohtani.
What a scam. Why watch baseball anymore?
“I hired the wrong guy” - Al Davis, discussing his nemesis “Lance” Kiffin.
USF has a good team.
When Urban was here we had the best strength and conditioning program, I question if our guys even spend any time in the weight room. And they get gassed in the fourth quarter.
It’s all about money pard. They don’t give a eff for the fans. They just think of us as dumb💩’s with money. It’s not MLB, NFL, NBA, or NHL. In their eyes we suck, they are just praying we don’t catch on or run out of money. IMO Be Well.
