President Donald Trump on Friday evening pushed back on Florida’s plan to eliminate all vaccine mandates, including school requirements.
Trump said Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo’s plan was a “tough stance” and emphasized that some vaccines are “not controversial” and should generally be taken to protect children.
“I think we have to be very careful,” he told the press from the Oval Office. “You have some vaccines that are so amazing: the polio vaccine, I happen to think is amazing. A lot of people think that COVID [vaccine] is amazing. You know, there are many people that believe strongly in that.”
“You have some vaccines that are so incredible, and I think you have to be very careful when you say that some people don’t have to be vaccinated,” the president reiterated. “It’s a very tough position.”
“Initially, I heard about it yesterday,” Trump said of the Florida vaccine initiative. “And it’s a tough stance. You have vaccines that work — just pure and simple, they work, they’re not controversial at all. And I think those vaccines should be used, otherwise some people are going to catch it and they endanger other people. And when you don’t have controversy at all, I think people should take it.”
Dr. Ladapo, alongside Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, announced on Wednesday that the Sunshine State will end all vaccination mandates, including requirements for schools.
“The Florida Department of Health, in partnership with the government, is working to end all vaccine mandates in Florida law — all of them,” Ladapo said. “Every last one of them.”
Ladapo said the government has no right to tell parents what to put in their children’s bodies, or their own bodies.

Nope, he should stay out of this. We don’t need mandates. This is not in his wheelhouse.
It’s ending the MANDATE, not the vaccine. If you want it you can get it. If you don’t, the state can’t force you.
What part of this does President Trump not understand? Who the hell writes his stuff anyway?
I want people to get polio, smallpox, whooping cough and MMR vaccines. The rest who cares.
All the federal and state governments should do is insure that the vaccines are effective and without any of the nasty stuff pharma has been putting in them. Then it’s the parents’ decision.
People can get them if they want them. If I thought they were not making these mRNA I might think differently. I have read too many articles saying they will be making almost all of them that way now.
We used to get smallpox and polio all the time and it was terrible.

Polio and small pox, yes. Covid, no. Covid is the common cold. You can’t stop that. God (or whoever or whatever you believe created us) gave us the ability to endure it. With some exceptions obviously.

But Trump does say the COVID vaccine works, right? Didn’t he say it’s one of the greatest accomplishments in human history?
Does anyone think that the Covid …not really a vaccine….. is amazing except the people that profit from its use? First, they said it would stop you from getting Covid -false. Next they said it would stop you from transmitting Covid - false. Then they claimed that it will keep you from having a worse outcome which is unprovable just like climate change.
You can’t pick and choose.
Mandating a medical procedure is a slippery slope.
Once there is a precedent, who decides which medical procedures the state can force us to undergo?
Even if you trust this administration to decide that, how do you know you can trust a future administration?
