A North Carolina city has approved a measure declaring itself a "Fourth Amendment Workplace" and boosting protections for illegal immigrant workers targeted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The Durham City Council passed the resolution on Tuesday with a unanimous vote to shield city workers against raids and arrests carried out by federal officials, according to The Duke Chronicle.

The Fourth Amendment protects citizens against unreasonable searches and arrests, and requires warrants with probable cause of a crime before seizing a person or property.

The resolution instructs city staff to "uphold the 4th amendment at their workplace and city agencies and report back to Council any barriers to effective training on the 4th Amendment for any departments," The Chronicle reported.…

FTA-—The Durham City Council passed the resolution on Tuesday with a unanimous vote to shield city workers against raids and arrests carried out by federal officials, according to The Duke Chronicle.

The Fourth Amendment protects “US CITIZENS” against unreasonable searches and arrests.

They’re here illegally....... they are NOT US citizens.

Absolutely agree. I think the federal gov’t should simply refuse to send any federal funds to such cities, informing the states that the city’s share of federal funds are being withheld (e.g., welfare, unemployment comp, food stamps, medicare/medicaid, rent subsidies, etc.) Let the state figure it out. Meanwhile, US taxpayers would no longer be funding free stuff to illegals.

Liberals at Dook University are understandably behind this.

It’s not one single court ruling, but a whole series of court rulings. As I understand it, the main problem is in the wording of the Bill of Rights.

Take the 4A for example. “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects…”

It says people there, not citizens. So the courts have ruled the 4A applies to literally everyone on US soil. I wonder if the Founders meant it thst way, or if it was an oversight on their part.

The 4th amendment protects “citizens” not non citizens.

I don’t think spitting in Tom Homan’s face in a very public way is a good strategy for protecting your illegal workers. It almost rises to the level of a stupid FAFO demonstration.

so durham city hires illegals

sounds like they need a raid

their crappy little resolution does not supercede federal law

and they will be prosecuted for obstruction if they interfere

Agreed. In many ways the Dims' push for cheap illegal labor looks a lot like their past push for slave labor. They say it helps the immigrant workers, just like the pro-slavery mantra claimed to do. And it hurts Americans looking for good paying work.

As much as I'd like to claim that the abolitionists in north Alabama (including my ancestors) were driven solely by love of God and man, I'll admit that the farmer class that my family was in was driven at least as much by not liking to compete with slave labor. My family (the norm for north Alabama) didn't have enough good land for large plantations, so we didn't own slaves (slavery was practically non-existent there). The large plantation owners were mostly in the southern half of the state (see secession vote results by count at https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/9yjb00/american_civil_war_secession_votes_by_county/).

The non-slave owning farmers saw the plantation owners as cheating by having cheap slave labor to lower crop prices. Much like today's American businesses and workers see cheap illegal immigrant labor (as well as legal immigrant labor like H1B's).

The right sees amendments as a way to protect freedoms from (mainly) government

The left sees amendments as a way to protect illegal activity and criminals from government

Arrest these insurrectionist LIB nitwit government employees. Deport them, if legally possible.

It should be simple. In regards to illegal aliens...
If you are ILLEGAL...GET OUT!

Like it or not...GET OUT!!!

” I’ll admit that the farmer class that my family was in was driven at least as much by not liking to compete with slave labor”

That was the entire motivation for much of the Mid-Western North. Pre-War, Indiana had a bond requirement for black people:

https://www.in.gov/history/for-educators/download-issues-of-the-indiana-historian/indiana-emigrants-to-liberia/being-black-in-indiana/

How many freedmen could afford a $500 bond?

So uh, where was all the vaunted concern over the status of non-Whites?

There wasn’t any. When they went to war, it was about eliminating competition from slave labor.

A citizen audit of workplace hiring practices might be in order.
Let's see the I-9 forms.

It says people there, not citizens.

So... British and Hessian soldiers were protected. /sarc

These illegal aliens are invaders and should be treated accordingly.

Given that the Founders had to put up with all sorts of invaders (as you noted), I would guess they meant the Bill of Rights to protect only citizens.

It’s a pity the Founders didn’t word things better. But I guess they couldn’t anticipate how crazy the left would become.
