FTA——The deadly crash in Florida involving Harendir Singh, an illegal Indian immigrant..... a licensed non-English speaking truck driver originally from India..... has stirred tensions throughout the state.
Members of the Sikh community now say the incident is being “exploited to single out” Sikh truck drivers and to spread negative sentiments against Sikhs who apparently colluded as to how get illegal truck licenses without speaking English.
No question in my mind, these illegal Indians colluded as to how to get lucrative truck-driving
jobs requiring licenses without even knowing enough English to be able to read road signs.
1..The rules are very strict...monitor time during the day in 15 minute intervals
2..Account for mandatory breaks and meal times.
3..Find appropriate parking for sleep time.
4..If there are two drivers the sleep time of second driver log book must fit in with first driver.
Highway patrol makes inspection of log book and can go back ( I think it was 5 days).
5. Penalties can be $1000 per infraction.
Spokeshave quit when regulations changed....It was necessary to log ALL time in ANY moving vehicle...bicycle...skate board...taxi....train....bus...etc.
For example Spokeshave ferried a new Carrier refrigerated truck from the factory in LA to the depo in northern CA....then taking overnight greyhound bus from Oakland to LA to pick up another...(sleeping on the bus).
Note ..The truck was manufactured in Mexico...and the Carrier cooling system was installed in LA.
