Montgomery County police are calling it a close call after arresting a man accused of impersonating a police officer.
Alejandro Zunca, 67, of Maryland, is now facing a criminal charge.
“We actually intercepted this individual before he could potentially pull somebody over,” said Cmdr. Jason Cokinos with Montgomery County police.
Montgomery County police say it all started in Silver Spring on New Hampshire Avenue near East Shaw last Friday.
An officer on patrol noticed a van with flashing lights driving down the road, and it didn’t take long to realize something was fishy.
When the officer pulled that van over, the traffic stop took a strange turn, police say.
“The vehicle had some weird lettering on the outside, in English and Spanish," Cokinos said. “[…] The gentleman in the car first said he was a police officer, then said he wasn’t very suspicious.”
Police say Zunca couldn't give the officer a straight answer for what he was doing or if he was an officer, according to court documents.
Investigators say once they looked inside, they found more items that set off alarm bells.
“A Baltimore city police badge, some other police garments, what appears to be a homemade police looking uniform, there was a toy gun […] and some other items that were all indicative of this person impersonating a police officer, pretending to be a police officer,” Cokinos said.

Jeremy Dewitte is currently in prison, having been released and re-arrested several times since he was sentenced to 18 months (and four years probation) back in September 2021.
Jeremy Dewitte is currently in jail. So here’s good news for Mr. Zunca. He now has the experience to take over Metro State in Mr. Dewitte’s absence.
And if you’ve never heard of Jeremy Dewitte, you’re missing a real treat. He’s a totally insane chronic police impersonator. Here’s just one of his many YouTube videos.

Is this THE Maryland Man?
Or do they have another Maryland Man 2.0?
The important information regarding whether this predator was illegal or not is missing from the article. Is this going to be the new norm, that we have to make inferences based on what is missing from the article? We’ve known for hears that a politician caught breaking the law is a Democrat if there is no mention of the party, or that a suspect is black if no mention is made of race.
