Singer Laurin Talese's rendition of 'Lift Every Voice and Sing' left NFL fans divided ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles' season opener, with many seething over the league's 'DEI' anthem.
The jazz songstress took center stage as the Eagles kick started their Super Bowl title defense in a divisional showdown against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.
While the song - which has been dubbed the Black National Anthem - has become common place in the NFL and has been performed at the Super Bowl and the Draft, the performance in Philadelphia sparked backlash.

That definition of sportsball is not complete. It's not just a term from someone who admits they don't know or care about sports, it's also someone who realizes they're all lumped together, instead of football, baseball, basketball, softball, etc.
The term "sportsball" could be used by someone who knows and cares a lot about sports but as an aggregate - such as in selling audiences to advertisers or "We hope to get a sportsball team into this economic region. It doesn't matter which type, as long as we can make money."
The song was first performed on February 12, 1900, to celebrate Lincoln’s birthday at a school, where James Weldon Johnson was principal.
Weldon was the Author.
It’s Lincoln’s birthday song.
The song isn’t the problem. I honestly don’t even know the words. It’s more the idea that this group has their national anthem And the rest of the nation something else. E plurbis Unum, one nation under God indivisible etc.
“Television is not the truth. Television’s a g_____n amusement park. Television is a circus, a carnival, a traveling troupe of acrobats, storytellers, dancers, singers, jugglers, sideshow freaks, lion tamers, and football players.
We’re in the boredom-killing business.”

I hear ya, I plopped down $45 last night to resubscribe to Sling. Don’t know what I am going to do when college hoops starts. I’m a Gonzaga alumni and am looking forward to another exciting year. Next year, they move to the PAC as a nonfootball member. They’ve come a long ways since 2000.
I’m tired of the left taking over ideas and groups that they used to hate. Things like churches and Boy Scouts and football and abolition and civil rights. I’m tired of us abandoning these entities as though they’re not worth preserving.
It’s long past time we started using every opportunity we have to remind people who was in the right and who was in the wrong. And IMHO the best opportunities are when the left tries to claim ownership of things created by God’s church.
I turned the sound off when that happened.. has zero place in sports period
goodell is just ass kissing the black players period
you have zero idea what other conservative people watch or not watch college or professional football. you can ONLY speak for your own self
all you had to do was turn the sound off, missed a good game too
While the breakdown is slightly skewed to the left compared to the general voting population, it is evident that many conservatives follow NFL football. The Norman Lear Center, which of course is liberal, posted a study in 2017 that stated that the following NFL teams had the most conservative fan bases:
Tennessee Titans – 37%
Kansas City Chiefs – 35%
New England Patriots – 35%
Denver Broncos – 34%
Jacksonville Jaguars – 34%
Considering that the area where the Patriots and Broncos play are liberal Democratic leaning, it is further evidence of conservatives following football. (The study was done in 2016, so there may have been shifts since that time.)
