Jonah Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Dispatch and longtime Never-Trumper, suggested that the Democrats could send the military to confiscate firearms from law-abiding Americans.
Goldberg framed his comments during a panel discussion on violent crime in major Democrat-run cities, comparing it to Donald Trump’s efforts to use federal resources to restore order in places like Chicago.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order last month, titled the “Protecting Chicago Initiative,” aimed at preventing the potential deployment of the National Guard by President Donald Trump to address the city’s rampant crime issues.
Johnson, a far-left Democrat, claims the order is necessary to defend residents’ constitutional rights amid fears of what he calls an “unconstitutional and illegal military occupation.”

Jonah Goldberg always seemed like a lightweight nepo-baby to me. He started out his career in the equivalent of the style section in National Review and was in over his head as soon as he started writing outside of those lines.
One is law enforcement, the other is violating the Constitution. However, one tiny army cannot defeat a huge army.
Democrats passed the 1968 gun control law, then failed to stop crime because they wanted the new crimes to be an excuse to call for more gun control.

1970, We ONLY want to ban small American handguns. Rifles will not be affected!
1976 We ONLY want to ban ALL handguns! Rifles will not be affected!
1981, Actress Lee Grant on Good Morning America (ABC) screams...”THE NRA IS A RIFLE ORGANIZATION! THEY SHOULD GIVE UP THEIR HANDGUNS AND THEY CAN KEEP THEIR RIFLES!”
1984, they came for the rifles.
1988,Josh Sugarmann, of the National Council to Ban Handguns tells how to ban rifles.

Trump did not use the US Military in a law enforcement capacity...and there are only very limited provisions to do so within Posse Commitatus, the Insurrection Act and other federal laws put in place since 9/11. He put the US Military in place as a show of force to embarrass California (think Gavin Newsome running for president in 2028), democrats in general, etc. (weak on crime) and to protect federal property, which is entirely within POTUS purview. There were no members of the US Military enforcing local or state law.

Not a Jonah fan, but to be fair, if anyone listens to the video clip, he DID NOT float this as a fantasy...he merely made the point (similar to other Freepers) in the US Military being deployed, as Trump did to protect federal property, in doing so, a “precedent” had been set that Democrats could do the same thing to solve a “gun problem”. First, there’s nothing to prevent them from doing so, though unconstitutional, as some Presidents push the envelope more than others. I also disagree that a precedent was set by Trump as other Presidents have done the same thing over the years (we always forget our history)...the precedent was set years ago. Heck during the Whiskey Rebellion George Washington actually led troops to put down a rebellion by rye farmers who objected to a tax to help pay off the debt incurred by the country during the revolution against England! Many of these same farmers “in rebellion” fought in the war against England.
We need a "Boone & Crockett" sort of points system to assign trophy value to various offensive politicians, media types and other undesirables. Not everyone will be able to proudly display Jonah's head on a pike, but there should be some way of sharing the bragging rights.

This ‘trial balloon’ has been floated before. Some professor a few years back speculated that police, national guard simply flood a city, county, or area, go door to door confiscating firearms being helped by the sales records held by the ATF. Any resistance would be met with extreme violence, thus cowing neighbors to comply.
After the law abiding are disarmed, only the criminals will be armed.
The loss of the great equalizer puts the weaker at the mercy of the strong man.

of course, they will use some poor schmo to be the example of what happens when you disobey gov edicts. We should be there to help that guy.
