CNN Panelist Jonah Goldberg Floats Gun Confiscation Fantasy: Democrats Could Deploy Military to Seize Guns from Law-Abiding Americans

Jonah Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Dispatch and longtime Never-Trumper, suggested that the Democrats could send the military to confiscate firearms from law-abiding Americans.

Goldberg framed his comments during a panel discussion on violent crime in major Democrat-run cities, comparing it to Donald Trump’s efforts to use federal resources to restore order in places like Chicago.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order last month, titled the “Protecting Chicago Initiative,” aimed at preventing the potential deployment of the National Guard by President Donald Trump to address the city’s rampant crime issues.

Johnson, a far-left Democrat, claims the order is necessary to defend residents’ constitutional rights amid fears of what he calls an “unconstitutional and illegal military occupation.”

Upon further review, you and others are correct. It boils down to what orders will the military and police will obey.

Classic deflection Pollyanna. I said no such thing. I did say that cops and military will follow orders and if those orders are to confiscate your firearms they will do so. Have you example and apparently you decided that was too logical for you and decided to make up some nonsense. I don’t know where you got the rest of the drivel you’re spouting it’s not from me. If you decide to have a rational discussion let me know otherwise go hump someone else’s leg.

Classic mistake on your part. The military is not obliged to follow un-Constitutional orders. An order to confiscate privately owned fireamrs is in direct violation of the 2d Amendment. A member of the military has an obligation to refuse un-Constitutional orders.

Now, where did I get that drivel? It was from your post #115 where you compare the NG to Vichy France. It’s a continuation of claims that the dems could declare a national emergency and use the NG to confiscate personally owned firearms. That is nothing but ‘drivel’.

Here’s the point you are overlooking. Trump deployed the NG to combat crime in DC. For there to be a reasonable analogy to Trump’s action there would have to be a crime committed. Owning personal firearms is not a crime. Ergo, since there is no crime, Trump’s actions are not a precedent.

So,,, I assume you have actually seen state troopers and sheriff’s dept officers and city police refusing to conduct arrest warrants because they held higher standards or loyalties..... what would make you think a twenty yr old recruit would behave differently?

where the hell do you live?

It’s not the 20 year old recruit refusing to carry our an order, it’s the 35 year old NCO or officer refusing to carry our an unconstitutional order. Do you see the difference?

Do you have any experience or training in how our NCO’s and Officer’s are trained? Do you realize that an officer or NCO transmitting an unconstitutional order is subject to prosecution? Do you realize that an Officer or NCO has an obligation to refuse and unconstitutional order? Do you believe that a Governor such as DeSantis would allow the FL guard to participate in such an operation?
