A man was found dead Saturday in a suspected homicide at the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert.
The man, described as a white adult man, was found “lying on the ground” and deceased after 9 p.m. on Saturday, the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday.
The discovery was made while the “Man,” a large human-shaped wooden sculpture at the center of the festival, was engulfed in flames. A participant flagged down a sheriff’s deputy and reported seeing “a male subject lying in a pool of blood,” in Black Rock City, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies, along with Bureau Land Management Rangers and Burning Man Project Black Rock Rangers, created a perimeter around the area and interviewed participants.
Officials said the identity of the man is unknown, and the body has been transported to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office.
“Although this act appears to be a singular crime, all participants should always be vigilant of their surroundings and acquaintances,” the sheriff’s office said.
Law enforcement is preserving the crime scene, noting the case is a “complicated investigation” as the makeshift city will be gone by the middle of the week. The annual festival kicked off Aug. 24 and ends Monday.
Anyone with information regarding the homicide is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
Burning Man said in a statement it is cooperating with law enforcement.
“If you are in Black Rock City, do not interfere with law enforcement activity,” the festival said. “The safety and well-being of our community are paramount.”
The festival said Black Rock Rangers can offer peer support services at the Ranger Headquarters and Outposts, and Black Rock City’s Emergency Services Department’s Crisis Support team is available 24/7 at stations.

Unless someone comes forward and confesses this will remain unsolved. Unlike TV and the movies, police do not have unlimited budgets, and with 20,000 suspects from everywhere they will not do much more and collect what if any evidence they can find, log it in, move on to something easier.
I get your point, but you would miss out on the collective energy and random hook up possibilities offered by the many thousands who attend Burning Man. For certain types, the gathering is like Woodstock in the desert with better amenities.

I finally realized why BM (burning man or bowel movement) evokes such disgust: a bunch of people dancing around a golden statue in the desert. Hmmmm. Where have we heard that before? Exodus 32.

If you read the article in post #5, a lot of them are well off. It says "Burning Man draws scientists, executives, innovators, and leaders" and "the event itself is sustained by some of the wealthiest donors in the world, many of whom treat it as their personal playground". Those people are still weirdos in all likelihood. I wish she had named names.

Every year they build a private airport and runway in the black rock desert. It’s FAA code is 88NV.
While the burn is on its one of the busiest private and GA airports in the nation. This is not little 172s its Gulf Streams and Lears the burn has become like Coachella a playground for the ultra wealthy. RV rentals go for $3000+ per night more with full burner staff to cook for you and do supply runs. Of course water and diesel generators plus AC.
I have flown to 88NV for the burn a couple of times.
