A Tuscumbia father wants to know what happened to his 15-year-old son and said he’s quickly losing trust in his community’s school system and police department as he waits for answers.
Jason Borden said he’s heard conflicting reports about what led to his son August Borden’s brain injuries that required him to be air lifted from Deshler High School to UAB Hospital on Aug. 19.
The freshman football player was walking to football practice after school when he suffered major head trauma. Once at the hospital ICU, the teen was treated for a fractured skull, two broken orbital sockets and more.

“If he really cared about his kids they would not be in public school”
What an arrogant and insulting thing to say. You are insinuating that no parent with kids in public school care about their kids. You sir, sound like a dick.
And, no I do not have kids in public school, so this isn’t me being defensive.
If the perp is 18, why aren’t any websites publishing his identity? Also, the slamming an unconscious person to the ground causing head trauma sounds like trademark Black perp behavior.
I hope this family sues a lot of people and institutions and government and gets a hell of a lot of money while giving an extreme amount of pain to the guilty.
“Following up on that seems like easy police work.”
Or not, depending on who is involved.
Sure sounds like the local polices are involved AND corrupt.
Just to support what you said.
I don’t know the case here or if the kid was having trouble at school
I do know of a kid whose mother home schooled him through HS and it wasn’t good. She was in such denial that he had a learning disability.
I know of other kids who went on from home schooling through high schools and have doctorates
I am always surprised to find out that parents bring their children back into a terrible situation in school. I see it here a lot. And personally. In a Catholic school the kid was psychologically abused with being exposed to satanic crap. Couldn’t sleep for days
The parents, very educated and savvy had a real talking to with the principal. I’m sure the kid was not impressed. But they don’t have the language for that. I would have quit my job and never brought him or his siblings back to them at school, would have quit everything.
I tell young women if they ask do not get married to a man who cannot or will not support your whole family. Work only if you want to. And get out zippety-do when your children need you
Enable your kids to talk and let you know what is going on at school and elsewhere. They won’t. Talk when they know you can’t quit work and be just as happy and able to support them
I know what I’m talking about. And no excuses. That kid stops talking to you, take them out in the car. Get take-out. Do some errands. Have a laugh. They’ll start talking. Be patient. No prodding. Let them know you’re thinking about not working. They’ll talk
Then order home school curriculum and quit.
Then get them to a private school Catholic or whatever. Try it. Check it out
And two facilty members witnessed the fight. But I guess no real police work is done anymore, but written off with a “There are no cameras in the area.”
Awhile ago I recall some lawyer talking about cameras and the law. The jury will expect camera evidence and not rely on hard evidence (such as bruises, witness statements, etc.) And the camera doesn’t tell the entire story - like George Floyd’s overdose.
The perpetrator is the QB on the Deshler Squad and hails from an affluent family. The perpetrator’s family is desperate to keep the truth hidden because the perpetrator wants to play QB for Alabama.
Deshler is a traditional football powerhouse. It’s been rumored that a rival school is offering money to any player to sack the QB. HARD. Let’s hope so.
This has been a big story in this area. I have a friend who resides in the Shoals area who keeps everyone updated on Facebook.
Thanks for posting this story. August deserves justice and Deshler needs to go down.
I’ve been following story. I can’t believe they’re allowed to be playing. And the community supports the ones who are perpetrators and those covering it up. Seems like way more than “ horseplay” as I’ve seen it explained.
It’s an outrage.
Here in Alabama, one does not mess with the football team. I don’t know how August’s friends and fellow teammates can play on the same team as the criminal QB.
I wonder if some of the Deshler Offensive Linemen will “forget” to block for the QB at certain times during the games.
From what I understand, the perpetrator’s dad is very powerful. This case needs to be investigated and the guilty party (parties) must pay.
As I am typing this, my phone is open to August’s mom’s Facebook page. The family is receiving support from all over the country, which is great because that means that the story is gaining traction.
There has to be cell phone video of the incident. I guarantee it exists. Kids these days video everything.
18 with a 13 year old girlfriend...
Wouldn’t be hard to find the kid’s name of his parent is on the school board. Just go to the website for Tuscumbia County, AL Board of Education, write down all their names. Then go to MaxPreps and get the roster for Deshler HS Football. Eliminate all the 10th and 11th graders. Start cross referencing names. I’m assuming the kid in question is going to be a O-line or a DT because he was able to lift and bear hug August unconscious and then throw him down. There ya go! Have a it.
I am not insinuating anything. I am stating it. If you don’t care enough abour your kids to get thm out of public school then you only have them as fashion accessories as you don’t mind them growing up unlearned so long as they stay away from you through the day.

Or, the attacker could be a Person Of Color.
I had looked, and both the sheriff and the chief were white, so punting it shouldn’t make much difference there. It’s up in north Alabama, not the Black belt. I didn’t look at the demographics of the school or town, however.

A quick google search reports that Tuscumbia is approximately 70% white. Not black belt statistics but doesn’t rule out a racial component. This story needs to simmer awhile before jumping to conclusions.
I didn’t jump to race on this one; I’m leaning toward a ‘roided out rich kid or son of a cop at this point.
Can’t investigate too hard, or someone might start asking where the perp got the ‘roids.
