The SS Edmund Fitzgerald Was Just Scanned by An AI — And It Revealed Something No One Expected
Beneath the icy depths of Lake Superior lies the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, a ship that vanished without warning nearly fifty years ago. No distress call. No survivors. Just silence. Now, for the first time, advanced AI has scanned the wreck with breathtaking precision. What it revealed was not just decay or twisted steel, but details that no one expected to see. How could one of the most respected ships on the Great Lakes disappear so suddenly? The answers hidden in this scan may rewrite the story of its final hours.

Just put “***** SPOILER ALERT *****”
Scrolled for a bit and discovered that I really don’t care that much.
And plenty of people have also drown. Like I said. Respect.
Or die.
Up to you.
You have no sense of humor, or never heard the song. :-)
Then the problem was probably taking on water.
;-)
If you’ve never seen the Great Lakes, I think Michigan in particular has some beautiful spots. Mackinac island is a great place to go. My wife and I have a cottage in the Traverse City area and go on day trips to Michigan’s Western Coast - Sleeping Bear Sand dunes are a sight to behold.
…when the gales of November come early…
I love The Edmund Fitzgerald threads. :D
They for got to disarm the depth charges, and one broke lose in the storm, went over the side, then detonated, rupturing the hull?
Freepers don’t watch ‘videos’. We just read headlines and pop off.
Don’t you realize that by now?
Lol
:-)
Ditto!
How about plumbers in summers who drive snow plows in the winter there’s a rhyme to be had in there somewhere.
OK, you win the thread.
RIP to those 29 men aboard.
+1 for Sturgeon Bay
Depth charges in 1974? On a Great Lakes iron boat? I guess war with Canada was inevitable. Luckily Jimmuh patched things up.
The following video has a clickbait headline: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHR8ZuO6e_o Give me the info alluded to in the headline and put it in a summary of 1-2 sentences.*****SPOILER ALERT***** Here is the response from Perplexity.ai:
The headline refers to a recent AI-assisted underwater scan of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald wreck, which revealed definitive evidence that the ship sank due to widespread and catastrophic failure of its cargo hatch clamps and vent structures—leading to rapid, undetected flooding, rather than crew error or mysterious circumstances. This breakthrough finally confirms long-standing suspicions and clears the crew of blame while rewriting understanding of the disaster's cause.
All that’s discussed in the video. Armed with clear underwater photography, they established there was no breached keel, just compromised hatch clamps, due to wear and tear that told in a big storm, and a vent pipe that was blown off by the storm. The previous underwater photography suggested that, but was too grainy to rely on, and the families would not tolerate any suggestion of negligence by the crew. They were not negligent. The fastened all the hatch clamps. It was the clamps that failed, and the vent pipe.
