Appearances are illusory and transitory. Ikkyu looked like a dog, but he was a Lion of the dharma. That happens a lot in various lineages of the Buddha Dharma. Look up Drukpa Kunley, the great siddha of Bhuthan.

Thanks, Candor7.  Will check this Drukpa Kunley guy out.

I'm a big fan of Amazon Kindle.  It's terrific because you can download a generous free sample of ANY book you are interested in buying.

It's ideal for a guy like me living in a foreign country.  Nine time out of 10, I just read the sample.  Usually it's a good read, but investing the time to read the full book is not worth it to me.

Just the other day I downloaded a sample of J.D. Vance's book, Hillbilly Elegy.  I got a fine education merely reading the sample, and someday I may buy the book.

I bought an Amazon Fire tablet 7 inch, 12th generation, which is the perfect size to fit in your hand.  You can find them on eBay for less than $50.  Such a deal.  Pay a bit more to ship it overseas.  Make sure to buy this 12th generation version because it's faster and the battery lasts a long time.

I've also downloaded quite a few Pickleball training videos to the tablet so I can watch those on the train or whenever I have free time.

One other thing: if you like old books from famous authors, Amazon has a "Send it to Kindle" site where you can drag and drop Kindle-formatted books from free sites like gutenberg.org.  In a matter of minutes you can read those books on your tablet no matter where you live.
