Lazy article. No one associates a one hit wonder with a group that put out one LP. A group that had one hit song amongst a larger body of work / multiple LP’s YES.

Derek and the Dominoes should not have been on the list. If this clown writer thinks so I guess he missed. Blind Faith, Mad Season, Lauren Hill, Sex Pistols. Jeff Buckley.......

“Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong is a favorite…. Pocket Full of whatever a close second”

Pocket full of Kryptonite is the name of the LP, no song by that title. Actually a very good LP, Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong...Two Princes....Jimmy Olsen Blues are the best of the bunch.

It’s twenty years old but check out Colin Hay’s “Man at Work” for a couple acoustic versions of “Down Under” and “Overkill”. My favorite is “Beautiful World” and “Waiting for My Real Life to Begin”. About a dozen years later was title of a pretty good biopic.

“Derek and The Dominos” was only meant to be a 1 album deal when Eric briefly became “Derek”.

I saw “Derek” when Santana was the opening act.

After the “Dominos” took stage, “Derek” came out, slung his guitar over his shoulder, played a few notes...then wailed into the beginning of “Layla”.

It was an awesome moment!

Pages Outrider was great also. His work with Chris Farlowe on Hummingbird was excellent, good solo, a Leon Russell song I believe.

One case where the band kept the name, but it was a profoundly different band was Pink Floyd. Try Fleetwood Mac

Pocket Full of whatever a close second.

That was Jimmy Olsen’s Blues.

What were the other hits? There are a pile of great songs on that album but they didn’t chart like Layla.

I liked his playing on Hummingbird too. Unfortunately, I thought Farlowe’s singing was overwrought and the original songs had horribly trite, Spinal-Tap-level lyrics. The only exception was “The Only One,” which sounds like something Page and Plant would come up with during a casual jam session, but caught a little of the old magic.

Huey Lewis and the News - Sports
Hootie and the Blowfish - Cracked Rear View

I can’t think of any songs that came after their big mega-albums.

Derek and the Dominoes? I prefer the real thing.

IMO Page’s best post-Zep song is Satisfaction Guaranteed with Paul Rogers in their short-lived collaboration The Firm:

Rogers and his live band have really perfected it in recent years:

“Overkill” on “Cargo” is my favorite “Men at Work” song.
