Taylor Townsend and Jelena Ostapenko got in a heated interaction after their second round match at the US Open.
Townsend is on to the third round.

CFP:
Taylor Townsend opponent loses her cool at U.S. Open — Here’s the video. You can lip read and hear the ending.
I don’t remember tennis players being that fat
I was thinking the same thing.......
I don’t remember tennis players being that animated.....................
One of them called the other low class
The other fought back proving…something
Nasty
I don’t know if this is free publicity for the open or the opposite
The further demeaning of sports to the lowest common denominator......................
Jelena Ostapenko should have just walked away after the hand shakes. See Barry Sanders. BE Barry Sanders.
What drives low class people crazy is chin up, walk away, class. Not an opportunity for them to fight, win, bring you into their low class world
You can take the gal out of the ghetto but...
I side with Townsend. Ostapenko should have shaken hands and walked away. Ostapenko was miffed because Townsend didn’t acknowledge her “luckiness” because a ball dropped over on a net shot. Wow. Then some language terms got into it. And more escalation.
I sided with Townsend, too. But then, she had to bring race into it, of course.
“I’m sorry to say, because sometimes, I feel like in society, especially people of color, we are expected to be silenced, or sometimes there are times where we have to decide and be very strategic as to when we speak up. In these types of moments, it’s important for me to speak up, not only for myself, but for my culture.”
If your culture is anything but a crutch, why do t you move to someplace you dont need to use that crutch, where your culture is the same as everyone elses?
They both BIG GIRLS...remind me of football players
Townsend goes on to do a chimp out after the argument, like she scored a touchdown.
It’s just two competitors, where neither of them like to lose. This is normal. No big deal.
Remember when John McEnroe would play Jimmy Connors? They would loudly yell and argue every single point. They would get down and dirty, truly nasty, even yelling at the umpire and ball boys.
The fans loved it.
McEnroe and Chris Evers did a lot to make tennis fun to watch.
I watched it. Heat of the moment. It happens. Next day at practice they were both all smiles.
That’s not a bad reply if she took “uneducated” as a slur. Again there’s some word use confusion from what the Latvian meant and what was interpreted.
Interesting back history
