Yep, it sound like a joke but the joke was on F1! The old Penske Rule interpretation standard….

The car’s been driven this decade at Goodwood (albeit without that special fuel most likely). F1 had super-exotic fuels and by that time, they banned refueling cars. The refueling ban was used for a decade, and for the past 12 years no refueling has been allowed again, but this time their 36 gallon fuel tanks have to last 195 miles. Contrast that to INDYCAR where they have 18 gallon ethanol tanks that do not last 75 miles. Still, it’s much better than the old 1.8 mpg methanol era when teams had must 116 gallons of methanol that had to last 52 laps, or 210 miles, of Road America. The modern ethanol INDYCAR can go as few as 72 gallons, but teams are allowed to make four pit stops, albeit they can run more fuel.
