The news story failed to mention what the outcome would be if both the rapist and victim were male.
Actually the entire world considered females property until very recently in time.
a girl was the property of her father, unless he basically agreed to sale his property to a suitor. The wedding ring which only women wore originally, was a mark for a slave.
