Rise and fall of Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin – from Putin 'coop' to plane crash

Two years ago today, a small plane exploded in mid-air over Russia and killed all 10 people on board, including the infamous Yevgeny Prigozhin.

The 62-year-old billionaire was the head of a mercenary gang called the Wagner Group. His abrupt end, however, came just two months after his bold - some would say barmy - decision to march his team towards the Moscow in an act of utter defiance against Mad Vlad's authority.

Formerly an ally of the Russian dictator, he went from being Putin's chef to public enemy number one of the Kremlin. Below we take a look at the rise and fall of Yevgeny Prigozhin on the anniversary of his death.

Caviar chef Prigozhin went from serving caviar to the Russian elite to launching a full-blown mutiny against it. As the shadowy boss of Russia’s most feared mercenary group, Wagner, lived a life straight out of a gangster flick.

Once nicknamed 'Putin’s Chef' for his cushy catering contracts with the Kremlin, his story is one of riches, ruthlessness and rebellion. But it all came literally crashing down in spectacular style in on August 23, 2023 when his private jet fell out of the sky in a massive fireball.

-snip-

By mid-2023, things boiled over as Prigozhin went into full-on rebel mode. Furious at what he called “incompetence” and “corruption” in the Russian Ministry of Defence, he marched 25,000 Wagner fighters toward Moscow in a jaw-dropping coup attempt.

For 24 hours, the world held its breath. Russian forces scrambled and Putin vanished from TV.

Then, all of a sudden, Prigozhin stopped. A mysterious 'deal' brokered by Belarus brought the mutiny to a halt and Wagner’s mission to an apparent end.

Prigozhin’s big mistake was his march towards Moscow. Turned out to be a fatal mistake.

No, Prigozhin's big mistake was stopping his march towards Moscow. That was his only, tiny chance of surviving.

You are just making up some silliness to avoid what you do not want to recognize, the United States is supporting Ukraine in this war, with training, with weapons, and with other aid and has all along, we are opposing Russia and North Korea, and our guns will still be pointed at them in 3 years while we are still working with Ukraine and our NATO allies.

I’m going to say this and then I’m going to be done with you because you’re just another Ukrainian troll on here trying to ram your garbage down Americans’ throats.

I am not of Ukrainian or Russian or Slavic or any eastern European heritage. Unlike you zeepers, I am a straight-up American with no biases in this mess. I do not want to see my country bogged down in this conflict any longer. President Trump obviously feels the same way and he expressed that yesterday and has done so before.

You say your buddy Zelensky does want to end this, but every time it looks like a window to peace might be opening, the tiny little guy starts squawking, making demands and rejecting things before anybody even asks him. Putin is no better. They’re both braying jackasses who appear to enjoy watching their counties be destroyed.

It is time for *my country* to walk away from this. I suspect President Trump will make one more go of having the two leaders try to make a deal, but I can see he’s getting just as sick of this crap as the rest of us are.

You zeepers throw tantrums and ramp up the insults and false accusations to a fever pitch whenever people recommend ending this thing or at least my country’s involvement in it, but too bad. Cry harder for all I care.

I’ll tell you the same thing I told your screechy little sidekick on here. I’m not going to continue this circular discussion and get caught in a Ukie-loop. You Ukies all do that.

So, keep spewing your nonsense. I’m walking away from it. I will allow you to have the last word.

Once again, another variant of they are "both savages". Its Putin who refuses to meet for talks, refusing to stop his invasion. These are not two countries slugging it out in Africa, this is our enemy Russia, invading a European country while issuing threats against us, and our NATO allies.
