Rise and fall of Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin – from Putin 'coop' to plane crash
Daily Star UK ^ | 8/23/2025 | Steven White

Two years ago today, a small plane exploded in mid-air over Russia and killed all 10 people on board, including the infamous Yevgeny Prigozhin.

The 62-year-old billionaire was the head of a mercenary gang called the Wagner Group. His abrupt end, however, came just two months after his bold - some would say barmy - decision to march his team towards the Moscow in an act of utter defiance against Mad Vlad's authority.

Formerly an ally of the Russian dictator, he went from being Putin's chef to public enemy number one of the Kremlin. Below we take a look at the rise and fall of Yevgeny Prigozhin on the anniversary of his death.

Caviar chef Prigozhin went from serving caviar to the Russian elite to launching a full-blown mutiny against it. As the shadowy boss of Russia’s most feared mercenary group, Wagner, lived a life straight out of a gangster flick.

Once nicknamed 'Putin’s Chef' for his cushy catering contracts with the Kremlin, his story is one of riches, ruthlessness and rebellion. But it all came literally crashing down in spectacular style in on August 23, 2023 when his private jet fell out of the sky in a massive fireball.

-snip-

By mid-2023, things boiled over as Prigozhin went into full-on rebel mode. Furious at what he called “incompetence” and “corruption” in the Russian Ministry of Defence, he marched 25,000 Wagner fighters toward Moscow in a jaw-dropping coup attempt.

For 24 hours, the world held its breath. Russian forces scrambled and Putin vanished from TV.

Then, all of a sudden, Prigozhin stopped. A mysterious 'deal' brokered by Belarus brought the mutiny to a halt and Wagner’s mission to an apparent end.

Darth Putin @DarthPutinKGB

OTD in 2023 Prigozhin developed a terminal case of altitude cancer and died. In unrelated news, he had recently said the reasons for our invasion of Ukraine were bullshit.

It isn’t puzzling that the U.S. side gets support here, it is natural.

In this war of Ukraine fighting off Russia and North Korea, which side is the United States supporting with weapons, with military training, and with other support, and which two countries does the United States consider as hostile and threats, and which our guns and a huge portion of our military budget are aimed at?

And which two countries will our guns still be pointed at in 3 years, and which country will we be aiding to rebuild and recover, and aiding with continued military cooperation?

It’s a bunch of propaganda from mostly Eastern European posters. They’ve been polluting the site with it for over three years. It’s junk posting. There are very few real news articles about this conflict on here; it’s just blatant propaganda from both sides.

They’ve been pushing the Biden-Obama-Soros-Pelosi-Graham position of our sending an endless flow of our tax dollars and matériels to Zelensky, which has primarily enriched a bunch of crooks.

Thank goodness President Trump stopped sending Zelensky all those billions of unaudited U.S. dollars on demand. And he has valiantly tried to bring about a peace agreement and an end to the war.

If Ukraine and Russia don’t want peace and prefer to keep slaughtering each other, it’s time for us to walk away from this racket.

Completely.

If Putin is so weak, it should be easy for Zelensky to go on offense
and take back his land Ruzzia now controls.
After all, Ruzzia no longer has its best General.
What’s Zelensky waiting for?

We see news on the biggest European War since WWII, a war involving our enemy Russia, and now our enemy North Korea fighting alongside them, and our United States, our European allies, even our Pacific allies support Ukraine.

It is natural for this site to be focused on this war, what is unnatural, is Russia/North Korea’s side getting so much support and passionate loyalty against the side we support.

We have a side in this war.

LOL at your spin all over this. You’re getting to be as bad as the French guy and that guy really rolls out some crazy B.S.

President Trump has tried to forge peace between those two savage nations. It’s time to walk away. We have our own issues. Our walking away will bring an end to the war pretty quickly because those grifting EU nations aren’t going to pony up.

They can keep on doing whatever it is they want to do. Just do it without us. We’ve spent enough money on this racket.

Don’t be so silly as to dismiss those simple facts as spin, they are the facts, with zero spin.

The United States has a side in this war, we backed Ukraine long before the war and we back it now, we supply Ukraine with weapons and President Trump is training the Ukrainians to kill the Russians and North Koreans, during his first presidency, so many years ago, he had American troops inside of Ukraine, training them to fight the Russians, today Trump is training them from Germany.

It’s sad to see the vocal Putin advocates cheering for the enemies of America. Russia. China. Iran. North Korea. Venezuela. Cuba. Nicaragua. Brazil. India. South Africa.

I think it all started after Tucker Carlson joined the Muslim Brotherhood and declared jihad on Israel.

Sad.

forge peace between those two savage nations

What is it with liberals and others who twist the English language; its choice not abortion. With you its "two savage nations", not an invasion by dictator Putin of an independent neighboring European country for territorial annexation.

Its self-defense for Ukraine not being "savage" and self-defense is the right of all people and countries.

Putin was afraid that Prigozhin was going to become too powerful.

And too popular. Putin is a weak and brittle old man who only survives by murdering his opponents.

And catering to the oligarchs that put him in power.

Again, you sound a lot like the French guy. I’ll bet your troll class instructor was once a used car salesman.

Do you expect me to take someone who calls British tabloids and Russian and Ukrainian blogs “news” seriously? You zeepers are always touting your complete and utter Bee Ess as “facts.” You’re funny. 😂

Anyway, I’m not going to continue this circular discussion and get caught in a Ukie-loop. (Your used car salesman teaches you guys that trick too, doesn’t he?)

So, keep spewing your nonsense. I’m walking away from it. I will permit you the last word.

Countries who insist on continuing to feed their young citizens into a meat grinder when a more powerful country is trying to help negotiate a peace agreement. Neither of those countries wants to end the bloodshed. They kidnap people off of the streets and force them into that savagery.

That is savage.

Foreigner.

Neither of those countries wants to end the bloodshed.

Once again, you falsely accuse BOTH countries of not wanting to "end the bloodshed" thereby being "savages".

Z is willing to meet Putin, according to Trump's wishes, Putin said no. How are BOTH unwilling to stop the bloodshed?

Correct. Putin thinks he has the leverage now. So he's not ready to negotiate yet.

The war can end tomorrow if Putin agrees to the ceasefire but he is not willing to do that.
