CBS host Tony Dokoupil agreed Wednesday with President Donald Trump’s push to have the Smithsonian Institution review how it presents American history.

During a "CBS Mornings" segment, Dokoupil defended Trump’s directive for Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C., to stop focusing on the sins of America’s past and portray the country’s history in a more positive light.

"American history shouldn’t be a thing of reverence. The country is not above critique," Dokoupil said. "But we shouldn’t look at our history with contempt, either. And there is some room for correction back toward the middle."

Even CBS is ready to admit it. Some walls of resistance are beginning to crumble.

” Some walls of resistance are beginning to crumble.”

They still infest the bureaucracy.

Some reality is setting in that Dems will not regain voters and increase favorability numbers by doubling down on the path that led them to the atrocious place they are now in.

And I hope the demonrat party crashes and burns once and for all, never again to rise from the ashes, metaphorically speaking.

The DC Smithsonians should be a showplace of positive American history and culture.

As DC is the capitol and show place of the US.

I would like to see DC/ Smithsonian have more narrowly focused museums. And also put the BEST stuff on permanent display.

I also think that we should show all apects of the US both positive and negative.

There is plenty of room and artifacts that the Smithsonian could and likely should have a separate museum dedicated to the “wrongs” of the US. Indians, Blacks, Chinese, Irish, Japanese, etc..

"American history shouldn’t be a thing of reverence. The country is not above critique,"

To the contrary, there is much (admittedly, not all) of American history to revere, not the least of which are those actions which corrected many long-standing social and political injustices of being a colony. The United States became the #1 world power within two centuries by making the moral, courageous, and politically revolutionary choices that set the path that led to where we are today, an example to the rest of the world of how to liberate the human potential.

I see that too.

People are getting “fatigued” by the constant White guilt, Christians are mean and close minded, Evil European invaders, America is bad... drivel.

They turned the place into a shine celebrating Spain’s conquering the indigenous peoples in South, Central and North America. When the indigenous tribes kicked their asses out of North America, they tried to blame it on the gringos. It’s a disgrace that the black guy running the Smithsonian has turned it into a street taco truck celebrating the Spanish losers.

Exactly. There is a middle ground between sackcloth and ashes self-flagellation and Pollyanna jingoism.

It is important to make the point that WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE RESPECTIVE TIME PERIODS, America has, as a whole, been less malevolent and more benevolent in its exercise of internal and external power than pretty much any other major country in history.

Yes, slavery, Trail of Tears, segregation, Japanese internment camps etc. all happened. But those are just part of the story and shouldn’t overshadow the vast majority of greatness and positive things in our history.

Tony is going to get fired, this is the third time in months he spoke up for reason and not in sync with Leftist network and Leftist Gayle King.

A lot of it is about age, young kids need a light version of history, without sharp edges, and especially without all the negativity directed at their own people and country, and ancestors, and especially when those classrooms are actually filled with immigrant children starting their process into becoming Americans.

As a person matures, so should the history classes, students should graduate high school with historical knowledge and wisdom, and knowing how it applies to modern life and the world’s nations and peoples, not this soul killing darkness about America and its first 200 years that they come out of public schools with.

The Left has infected all institutions with Critical Race Theory. Gayle King and other Leftists are upset that we are removing it.

Libs LOVE to look to Europe...

From my (limited) experience. Germany, has TONS of museums. Most celebrating the great history of Germany, and elevating German artists. A VERY positive and inspirational thing for the German people.

There are ALSO numerous museums and sites dedicated to WWII and the evil side of things. They don’t hide it. They don’t shy away. It is there and especially UGLY.

My point is there is a place for everything. And you don’t have to put Ugliness and Evil between two masterwork paintings.

I remember when feminists were pressuring museums to alter displays of cavemen and tribal scenes, complaining that the women appeared passive by holding babies and cooking, while the males were action posed by holding spears, or tools.

Remember the 50th anniversary of the Enola Gay, and the freak out from the WWII vets from the way the Smithsonian was portraying the bombing.

I was at the Museum of American History in May. The claims are not exaggerated. The Star Soangled Banner exhibit was glorious. But there were so many of the woke exhibits, we left after about 30 mins

When almost every exhibit has a climate change footnote, you know its gone to the extreme.
