The church's move is the most spectacular and symbolic moment of the wider relocation of buildings in Kiruna, which lies 145km (90 miles) north of the Arctic Circle.
The old city centre is at risk from ground fissures after more than a century of iron ore mining.
Since the mid-2010s, buildings have been moved to safer ground. Most were demolished and rebuilt, but some landmarks – including the church - were moved intact. Kiruna Church is 35m (115ft) high, 40m wide and weighs 672 tonnes. It was once voted Sweden's most beautiful pre-1950 building.

Neat. :)
I saw a lot of houses moved when I was a kid, I thought it was really weird, especially cutting them in half if they were large.
A few decades ago, some guy bought a house in the Hollywood area of California. He wanted to preserve its historical value before construction crews were going to demolish it. So, he bought the house and moved it to another location that he didn’t have permission to move it to, then he bought that property later.
That house now sits awkwardly at a corner, and is now a chiropractor‘s office.
This was the Michael Myers house used in John Carpenter‘s original Halloween from 1978. The guy who bought and moved it didn’t even know until it was pointed out to him later.
Impressive!
I love old churches and those that refrain from destroying them and go to these lengths to restore them are to be commended.
Pretty church.
