A Las Vegas teen who shot and killed his own father during a fight over electronics evaded prison time when a judge only sentenced him to probation Thursday, according to a report.
Lincoln Peterson pleaded for mercy and claimed “none of this was ever my intention” as family members also showed support for the 16-year-old boy four months after he pleaded to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of his dad, Jeremy Peterson.
District Judge Tierra Jones ordered probation for Peterson — bucking prosecutors’ request that the convicted killer spend at least six years behind bars, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Jones noted the overwhelming number of loved ones backing Peterson when explaining her light sentencing, the newspaper reported.
“Nothing, nothing compares to losing the love of my life, my husband, and knowing that my own son’s action was the cause,” the defendant’s mother and victim’s wife, Abigail Peterson, reportedly said.
“But unless you’ve stood in my place, you cannot understand the depth of the pain that coexists with forgiveness and love.”
The fatal argument between Peterson and his father on Dec. 28, 2024, began after his parents took his electronics away for bad grades and believed he was “sneaking” using them, according to court records reviewed by the Review Journal.
His mother smacked him with a belt, and as he ran from his parents, he picked up a handgun from a dryer and shot backward, but claimed he didn’t know he struck anyone, according to records.

Because he’s now an orphan?
District Judge Tierra Gatemouth Jones has some nice Groucho eyebrows.
Imma takes yo electricals
Dad, return the iPad, or I keel you!
It’s not one of them, Yogi.
Is it white trash where the mother hits her teenager with a belt and leaves a gun lying around? Certainly sounds like it.
Pretty much. An unparented teen left to his own devices.
Every parent I know takes away their kid’s electronics when they get bad grades. The belt, not so much.
Yep and his pic just popped right up.
Sounds kinda trailer park to me....
Before a certain age, they shouldn’t even have electronic devices. It rewires the brain in ways we don’t fully understand and the fruit of that is still waiting to fully mature many years yet down the road.
Sickening.
That's excellent right there.
WTF? Reckless discharge of a gun resulting in a homicide and the kid gets probation? Such sentences are insane and explains why crime is out of control.
This stupid judge should do the 6 years for her idiocy.
Obtained a deadly weapon, (he picked up a handgun from a dryer and shot backward), he shot a deadly weapon inside a house or apartment in the direction of two people...
Was his life in jeopardy?
Teen who killed father during fight over electronics --
An iPhone, a game boy, what?
Why not name the device?
WTF?
This smells, this smells badly.
Sounds like Comey’s hillary defense but rather than the prosecution,
‘no reasonable judge’.
Judges who won’t enforce the law. They weren’t put on the bench to be kind to criminals.
