Three words helped me run way faster on a day when I passed by a group of inner city denizens: “Hey white boy.”

Words that make you move fast. Out here in the desert folks can do amazing physical feats. They can be in one place and instantly be 20 feet away in another place.
All you have to do is yell SNAKE!

Some of us are more motivated by what we are running toward than what we are running away from.

“ZOINKS!!!” - although you can run faster, it takes a bit longer for your feet to stop spinning in the air and actually grip the ground.

When I used to run track, especially the 440, I would tell myself “lift up your knees.”
Towards the end of the 440, your legs feel like lead.

Reading the article I eventually lost interest in what these mysterious word are.

Didn't we all learn the magic words when we were little?

My "secret" was adrenaline... which I could generally pump into my veins rather easily, simply by thinking of things that enraged me as much as possible. I ran purely on Hate. Basically akin to The Waterboy, I guess. But boy howdy, it definitely worked! Distance runners are supposed to be long-legged, but I am rather long-waisted... but I still won far more than I lost (in HS), and got myself a decent minor scholarship to help with college expenses.
Some thoughts and memories worked better than others, just as the words that motivated the kids in the stud varied by child... but thoughts of my favorite dogs being abused or mistreated were generally among the most common ways to drive me to the peaks of enraged insanity. Once I even ran off course because I was so distracted, lol. Missed the turn completely, even with flags and course officials standing there.
