Truck driving is the one trade that military training qualifies for. Electrician, still need apprenticeship before exam. Plumbing, ditto.

But Army guys driving trucks in the Army get trained and they are actually allowed to take the CDL while still on active duty.

It is the path to reasonably good pay, seeing sights and with zero university debt. I’ve taken to sending kids in that direction rather than college.

The ignorant jerk tried to do a u-turn through an ‘emergency only’ center crossover berm intended for emergency use vehicles only. These crossovers on multi-lane highways are extremely treacherous because they involve leaving and entering the fast lanes on both sides of the roadway. How he thought he could get an 18 wheeler through the cross-over safely and then enter the fast lane of traffic says this guy didn’t give a damn for life.

When a semi is hauling 20,000 pound load, a man has to be sharp. Why are we giving CDLs to some of the dullest immigrant knives in the drawer?

My son went that direction. His career has been mostly flatbeds. He likes the extra responsibility of being responsible for his load.

He currently mainly drives semi’s for a large landscape supply company and is the undisputed hero of the family. A couple years ago he was driving a dump truck full of stone. A school bus driver with a busload of kids decided that the dump truck could stop for her so she pulled out right in front of him. He decided he wasn’t killing kids that day and pulled a hard swerve. The tire track photos were kind of cool showing he was up on two wheels for about 100 feet before he rolled the truck.

He was mercifully uninjured.

It’s a great career and one that is critically important. But if you can’t speak or read english, you can’t be a trucker.

In ThePeoplesRepublic of Minnesota, regular drivers license are handed out like free popcorn to illegals many of whom cannot speak, read or write the English language. Many then become phone app delivery drivers who are put on the streets making deliveries while trying to follow the map on their phone. I have personally seen some of these drivers using two phones, one with the app and the other with a semi literate friend verbally coaching them how to do things. Given that level of distraction with a very inexperienced driver who might not be able to read road signs is a recipe for disaster on the highway.
