“Witkoff says Trump, Putin agreed to ‘robust security guarantees’ during summit”

Note the missing word: NATO. Glad to see that is now off the table and thus Trump and Putin can move forward.

What does Article 5 of the Constitution suggest......describing the formal amendment process?

“The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, ..........

Right. Which makes it more palatable for Russia, but the US a sitting duck for the Weenies intent on drawing us into war.

European leaders will join Ukraine’s Zelensky when
he meets Pres Trump at the White House tomorrow.
<><>Sir Keir Starmer,
<><>European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen,
<><>German chancellor Friedrich Merz
<><>and France’s Emmanuel Macron will travel to Washington.

Who invited them?

How come the Z man can be surrounded
by his EU pals .....all allied against Trump?

So US troops would be called to die for Ukraine. Trump would be impeached for that.

I think one of the big concerns is that Russia might take some portion of Ukraine now in return for peace but then come back in a few more years and take more of Ukraine for a future peace agreement. And then do it a third time. Eventually Russia would get it all by a sequence of peace agreements. That seemed to be a big concern. Well, an Article 5-like agreement would seem to give Russia some of Ukraine now, but no more in the future. That’s not bad.

“Right. Which makes it more palatable for Russia, but the US a sitting duck for the Weenies intent on drawing us into war.”

The key thing is that if Ukraine is not in NATO, then they won’t be an offensive threat to Russia, and thus Russia won’t have any reason to attack them, as both Russia and the Soviet Union proved in regard to Finland and Austria, both during after the Cold War.
It was only after the Neocons militarized Ukraine that Russia was forced to take action...that won’t happen in any agreement that Russia accepts. Basically the same deals they made regarding Finland and Austria.

NATO is (understandably) a nonstarter for the Russians.

But NATO-like protection, though still optional, is catnip for the scheming Weenies.

Good question. Also NONE of this would have happened if after the breakup of the old USSR, Russia had been invited to join NATO. Which should have happened.

Still probably a worthwhile solution if it ends the war satisfactorily, however: Don’t get me wrong.

Never. The political parties wouldn't support limiting potus authority, even if congress never authorized it.

Even on minor issues like a continued extension for tiktok isn't complained by congress. Even though congress never granted such authority to the potus for more than one extension.

The only threat to Ukraine is Russia and Trump will have an agreement with Putin to not do that.

They’re talking about Article 5 of the NATO Charter. Not the US Constitution.

The hard part is to convince Russia that the NEXT US president will not tear up any agreement between the US and Russia. I think outlawing the Democrat Party would go a long way to relieving Russia of that concern (after all, Europe has no problem outlawing troublemakers), but it would still be a big step here.

So the next option would be pulling back and/or removing US forces from Europe, as that would give Russia some time to prepare, should a psycho, like Nuland get into a position to start moving troops back into Europe to start another war against Russia.

As far as Europe itself goes, Russia, like anyone else, can read the tea leaves there, and while Europeans can threaten all they want today, in a decade those countries will be mostly Islamic and thus won’t have the psychological baggage regarding Russia that Europeans have.

So that they can share the Nobel Peace Prize instead of awarding it to Trump.
