Are we on the verge of a generational jobs crisis?

@KobeissiLetter

Are we on the verge of a generational jobs crisis?

The 3-month average youth underemployment rate jumped to 17% in July, the highest since 2020.

This metric includes unemployed individuals aged 16–24.

Now, the youth underemployment rate has climbed by ~5 percentage points over the last 2 years.

This is nearly in line with the peak during the 2001 recession and the early stages of the 2008 Financial Crisis.

This also signals the US labor market could weaken further, with young workers typically the first to feel the impact when the economy turns.

The job market is rapidly deteriorating.

Where were all of these chicken littles when millions of jobs were shipped overseas when manufacturing was STUPIDLY offshored?

Men hardest hit via tech. Service related, women are staying ahead via nursing, etc.

Pretty amazing our government is speeding up and subsidizing the AI development to eradicate inefficient human labor in certain areas.

I’ll never know what to truly make of unemployment numbers unless we get rid of all kinds of welfare. Unless that happens we’ll never know how many of the “unemployed” are gaming the system.

How many young people just aren’t willing to do relatively crummy jobs to get some experience, and bide time while they move up?

Remember Biden said “Learn to code.” Well it looks like AI will be taking most of those jobs, so those that foolishly took that idiot’s advice will be hating life. Nothing left but to get one’s hands dirty. Machinists, electricians, plumbers, most any traditional trade will be their best bet.

We will still need plumbers, welders, firefighters, police officers, etc.

We're not going to need computer programmers.

The greatest retirement in history is underway. And it will continue for another 5 years or so.

The issues with a lot of trends is that the writers do not take the demographic bubble we are moving through.

The fourth turning will continue until the easily 2030’s. We will go through a crisis, but it will end and it will be good for a while afterwards. All life is cyclical.

I think this statistic should be changed to at least 18 to 25. 16 and 17 year-olds are still in high school school not be working anyway. I wonder when this category was created

Jobs can’t find workers and workers can’t find jobs.
Strange.

“They’re not needed (?)”

I wonder if they ever were “needed.”
They are just cheaper.

“Is this AI/the economy, etc. or what it doesn’t sound good for young people...”

Please get Rand Paul or somebody to teach you how to write a coherent sentence.

It’s not AI. Many young people simply don’t know how to work. There are many exceptions of course. But many companies simply won’t hire entitled woke young people. Examples abound.

Where were all of these chicken littles when millions of jobs were shipped overseas when manufacturing was STUPIDLY offshored?

No kidding! I'd add where were these chicken littles when unlimited illegal immigration stole millions of entry-level jobs in construction, agriculture and manufacturing?

I think the jobs market is going to explode real soon with:
1. the deportation of millions of illegals
2. the tens of TRILLIONS of dollars of foreign investment in the USA
3. the massive rollback of jobs-killing needless government regulation
4. taking the shackles off the REAL energy industry which will reduce energy prices
5. killing the fictitious "green energy" scam and its promise of essentially government-mandated jobs
6. sacking 300,000 worthless government employees

Most of the supposed job gains under Biden were in government at all levels. Those people are a massive drain on the economy. There's a huge multiplier for a government job -- not only do they have to be paid and get juicy benefits, many of them work to block industry from growing with millions of regulations.

By killing every bloodsucking activity that depends on eternal government subsidies to survive and killing the bloodsucking government regulators, we are about to unleash a huge renaissance in the economy.

Young people need to learn from Wayne Gretzky -- skate to where the job market will be in 5-15 years. DO NOT become a specialist or expert in a career that will go away soon due to AI.

30-40% of all jobs will be eliminated in about 3 years. Everybody is going to suffer big time. You have kids starting college, get them into a healthcare field.

True. And more and more corporations are hiring kids right out of high school and putting them on apprenticeship programs. If college is needed, the corporations send them to night school and pay for it.

Except for some of the STEM schools, colleges have ruined a generation of kids.
