Trump: Putin ready to sign non-aggression deal, wants Ukraine's Donbas in return

During a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following the Alaska summit with Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the Russian leader insists on gaining control over the entire Donbas region

Bloomberg reported the information.

According to sources, during the phone call, Trump noted that the final decision on the territories should be made by Kyiv, but Putin’s position remains unchanged. Russia wants full control over Donetsk and Luhansk regions, even though its forces have currently captured only part of these areas.

If Kyiv agrees, Moscow is ready to drop claims to the parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions still under Ukrainian control, effectively freezing the frontline there.

President Zelenskyy has repeatedly rejected any possibility of ceding territory.

Additionally, sources said that in talks with European leaders, Trump expressed willingness to support security guarantees for Ukraine, provided they do not involve NATO. The president suggested that Putin would agree to this.

Trump claims Putin open to new written agreement

Moreover, as Trump emphasized in talks with European leaders after the Alaska summit, the Russian leader is reportedly even willing to provide a written guarantee of no further armed aggression against Ukraine or any EU country, if he is given full control over the territories of Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions, including areas currently under Ukrainian control.

This information was reported on the evening of August 16 by New York Times correspondent Steven Erlanger in Berlin.

“In return, Mr. Putin offered a cease-fire in the rest of Ukraine at current battle lines and a written promise not to attack Ukraine or any European country again, the senior officials said,” the NYT article states.

In response, European leaders reportedly reminded Trump that Putin “has broken similar promises before.”

In the view of the Ukraine and the EU, why not send American boys 9 or 10 thousand miles away from home to do what Ukrainian boys ought to be doing for themselves.

Land for peace is a result of losing a war.

The Ukes are lucky the Russians seem willing to let them keep enough of a military to march in glorious parades celebrating their nazi and nationalist units from WW2.

I’m not sure, I heard her name called out at the beginning, but not later...so maybe not.

Trump should tell Putin that NATO is useless and can’t and therefore won’t be a problem for him as long as he gets the Donbass, tell Z us will buy all rare earths and make them rich, he gets NATO. “protection” Putin isn’t starting any more wars. He is almost dead and has to put his country back together before he gets whacked. He has to pay off all his oligarch at some point, This isn’t appeasement or rewarding agression cause Putin is finished physically and economically. The Russian people will not go for any more war.

Putin already has the Donbas region. He’s lost a lot of Russian boys taking it. He’s not giving it back. The people in that region want to be with Russia. Time for the Ukrainians to deal with reality. Trump understands this.

Excerpt from the Treaty of Portsmouth ending the Russo-Japanese War:

The Imperial Governments of Japan and Russia shall each appoint a special commissioner to take charge of the prisoners. All prisoners in the hands of one Government shall be delivered to and be received by the commissioner of the other Government or by his duly authorized representative in such convenient numbers and at such convenient ports of the delivering State as such delivering State shall notify in advance to the commissioner of the receiving State.

The Governments of Japan and Russia shall present each other as soon as possible after the delivery of the prisoners is completed with a statement of the direct expenditures respectively incurred by them for the care and maintenance of the prisoner from the date of capture or surrender and up to the time of death or delivery. Russia engages to repay as soon as possible after the exchange of statement as above provided the difference between the actual amount so expended by Japan and the actual amount similarly disbursed by Russia.

He has part of Donbas. He demands the rest and offers to give up nothing in return, only a promise to stop killing Ukrainians.

Because Lukashenko knows he’d get the Mussolini treatment if he didn’t go along with Putin.

But, I think there is an opening there.

George Washington warned us of foreign entanglements, and Dwight Eisenhower of the military-industrial complex. We should have listened more carefully to them.
WW3 is just around the corner...can the human species avoid self-destruction? Not sure anymore.

Both sides have behaved terribly.

Both sides? Do you know how many sides there are that behaved badly? Our globalist war mongers who thought they could make Russia collapse [see Brzinski doctrine and its progeny], WEF, global hedge funds, EU, useless NATO bureaucrats trying to find a mission after the end of the cold war, etc. etc. Oh, and the grifters in Congress, NGOs, DC strategic and peace studies orgs, who were being paid handsomely out of the laundry.

Why would Putin want to stop now? He is running out of troops, money, equipment and the whole of Russia is about to go into bankruptcy! That is why.
If he thought he was winning he would not stop where he is.

You sound like you ‘want’ him to keep going with the war. Be happy no matter what reasoning he is using. And...never look a gift horse in the mouth. Especially if it’s probably drunk on Stoli.

I don’t give a flying f*** about the “art” of the deal. I am inalterably opposed to the U.S. backing any agreement that even remotely appears to reward aggression, especially when we have more than sufficient ability to punish the same aggression.

“””President Zelenskyy has repeatedly rejected any possibility of ceding territory. “””

Then he needs to put on his GI Joe costume, grab his Red Ryder BB gun and head to the front lines and fight.

“”He is almost dead and has to put his country back together before he gets whacked. “”

Almost dead? If you mean physically... he looked healthy enough to me yesterday. If you mean spiritually... that’s been the case since he was a teen, no doubt. Putting the country back together will be a different matter. But having totalitarian, iron grip, control will help a bit. He can just take what he wants from ‘the people’... and use his nuclear power status to coerce other nations to “help”... like leftists always do.
