United States President Donald Trump stressed on Wednesday that if Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses to stop the war in Ukraine during their meeting in Alaska, his country will face "severe consequences."
Speaking to reporters, the US head of state did not specify what types of consequences Moscow would suffer. However, he insisted that he would be putting pressure on the country.
The comments come after Trump's phone conversations with the European leaders. According to media reports, the US president told his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky that territorial swaps might be necessary.

All we get from Russia are fertilizer and rare earths that we can't get either cheaply or at all elsewhere.
Trump isn't going to implement sanctions on China that hurt our economy, let alone ones solely linked to the war in Ukraine.

That appears to be objective of the meeting with Putin - finding off ramp to our involvement with this war.
Trump has consistently tried everything that neocons like Lindsey Graham and Keith Kellogg have presented to him in regard to leverage and everything they have suggested has failed miserably. They have no credibility left.
It's past time he told them he's done all he can.

Trump is just placating the Europeans with this. Realistically what more can he threaten Russia with? Further sanctions are pointless. He could threaten Putin that he will send massive military aid to Ukraine if a deal isn’t reached but Russia knows that it’s unlikely (and it would anger large parts of his base). Russia has this war pretty much in the bag at this point and the only thing left to negotiate is Ukraine’s terms of surrender. If Europe wants to continue fighting let them do it on their own.
BOTH Russia and Ukraine will be punished if they refuse Peace.

Have we tried supplying the Ukes with massive amounts of those IED roadside bombs that Iran gave our enemies in Iraq and Afghanistan? The ones with thick copper plates that fragmented and partially melted when the high explosives in them detonated, so they tore through our Humvee and other vehicle armor? Killed and maimed many ma.y of our troops. No reason it wouldn’t maimed and kill Russians too. Heck we could reopen some copper mines here to make em. Have the Ules put them EVERYWHERE THE Russians are.

Looks like Zelensky and the Euro’s are going all out to sabotage this.
Russia considers this war to be existential to its survival. We’ve continued expanding NATO over the years and Russia considers bringing Ukraine into it completely unacceptable. Doesn’t matter how much military aid we send to Ukraine Russia will never give in. They’ve already hinted they will use tactical nukes if necessary and they’re not bluffing.
