Three people have died after a gunman opened fire at a Target parking lot in Austin on Monday afternoon - and the suspect has been detained.
The 32-year-old attacker, who was described as white and wearing a Hawaiian shirt, fired at shoppers at the store on Research Boulevard in Texas just before 3pm ET.
Austin Police Department said the gunman was detained sometime before 3.15pm, and that four people were hurt in total, including one child. Three people have died.
A motive has not been established - but the suspect has a criminal history in Texas.
After opening fire in the parking lot, the gunman hijacked a car, then crashed it, and hijacked a second vehicle before he was finally tracked down by police.
He was Tasered before eventually being detained by members of Austin Police.

Looks like Texas forgot to fire up "Ol' Sparky" for this one. This is why capital punishment needs to be sure and swift. No appeals.

In too many places, a perp who commits a serious crime gets charged with a lesser crime. Then he takes a plea and gets very little jail time. The next thing you know, he’s back on the streets again.

He was transferred to the state penitentiary in Trenton three days after the verdict, where he lived in a ten-by-eight foot cell on death row. After his appeals were denied, and other attempts to prove his innocence failed, Hauptmann was executed via the electric chair on April 3, 1936.
About 15 months from conviction to execution.

He's done a lot of great things, but getting folks in gear on the death penalty certainly isn't one of his accomplishments.
