“measles, a deadly but preventable disease”

When I was a kid, there was no vaccine, we all got measles and survived with immunity. The same went for the other childhood diseases like mumps and chickenpox, etc. A few unlucky kids died. C’est la vie. The real threat was polio, and thank God the Salk vaccine came along. But measles was not regarded as deadly to children.

The difference is that back then nobody was trying to use diseases to create political hysteria, and scaring women into believing kids will all die from a bad cold, not to mention measles or mumps.
