Trump says he will try to get back territory for Ukraine in talks with Putin

US President Donald Trump has said he will try to get some territory back for Ukraine during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday.

"Russia's occupied a big portion of Ukraine. They occupied prime territory. We're going to try to get some of that territory back for Ukraine," he told a news conference.

Trump said the talks in Alaska would be a "feel-out meeting" aimed at urging Putin to end the war, and that there would be "some swapping, changes in land".

It is not the first time he has used the phrase "land-swapping", though it is unclear what land Russia could cede to Ukraine. Kyiv has never lay claim to any Russian territories.

Trump said he will update European leaders if Putin proposes a "fair deal" during the talks, adding that he would speak to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky first "out of respect".

"I'll call him first... I'll call him after, and I may say, 'lots of luck, keep fighting,' or I may say, 'we can make a deal'", he said.

So , which part of the EU wants to commit troops to invade Russia to get the deal Zelensky demands?

Ohhh, you want America to have a confrontational war with Russia, destroying both the USA and Russia.
EU rules the world.
Nice Plan..

The leaked out stories go with the notion Russia will keep those eastern ethnically linguistically Russian parts of Ukraine.

Some southern territory taken in the war would go back to Ukraine.

Russia also keeps Crimea.

Reminder:

There is no Korean peace treaty.

There is an armistice and S. Korea never signed it. It was signed by N. Korea, China and the UN Command group, with the US the prominent part.

That has held up 70 yrs, tho it is likely the US reneged when it imposed sanctions on N. Korea. They clearly have not been effective so that’s a shrug.

Point being, Zelensky does not have to sign or agree. S. Korea did not and S. Korea has not ordered mass attacks across the border. If they did the US would likely bomb them for violating its signature. One could expect the same for Zelensky.

Frankly, the only real fly in the ointment is EU sanctions on Russia. The US can undo its sanctions, but the EU . . . .

Regardless, a Korea-like armistice is the direction things are going with a ceasefire in place. Russia could probably even agree to some tiny EU troop contingent in Ukraine — too small to fight, but large enough to serve as a trigger should they be killed in a Russian attack.

This is suddenly all doable.

It WAS their land. How do you propose they get it back without militarily pushing the Russians out?

Surely somewhere, someone has an answer.

If it's not our problem why are we even trying to bring about a settlement ?

That appears where this is heading.

The question is...how long does the present dictator in Ukraine last?

It’s important to remember that Russian revanchists of Putin’s ilk consider all of Ukraine to be part of Greater Russia and Ukrainians just “bad” Russians. He won’t “give back” anything gained in his genocidal war of choice. Period.

Nobody here reads HISTORY!
Ukraine kings son was given rule over Russia!
This is a family fight.
We should stay out of it.
This isn’t swords and arrows anymore.
I could care less if Russian population decreases
even more, they are already long past survival point.
Be patient, the Russia that threatened America will cease to exist.

My only concern is what idiot will inherit their Nukes that may or may not work?
I guess that will be my Grandsons problem.
