UK’s AI ambitions clash with its climate goals

LONDON — Tech giants must be allowed to burn more fossil fuels if the U.K. is to become a global AI leader, British ministers were told this summer.

The warning was raised at a meeting in late June between Technology Secretary Peter Kyle, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and executives from leading U.S. tech firms.

The suggestion — that on-site gas fuel cells could provide an “interim measure” to get around lengthy waits for a connection to the electricity grid — exposes the tensions the U.K. faces as it tries to be both a climate leader and an “AI maker.”

Achieving the latter relies on rapidly increasing the number of energy-intensive data centers for AI on British soil.

But Kyle has said the government is “clear-eyed ... on the need to make sure we can power this golden era for British AI through responsible, sustainable energy sources.”

Thank you very much and God bless you.

But, but, but what about climate change? If anything exposes how much the government wants to be your pimp it is AI.

Government will do anything for it because it basically allows government to watch "every move you make, every vow you break, every smile you fake, every claim you stake, GOVERNMENT will be watching you.

Why the people allow it is beyond me!!

I think the EU should continue with its climate goals until it completely destroys the continent.

We already are starting to see the fruits of the climate change policy. German industry is collapsing. The entire continent is going to fall back into a Dark Ages.

nonsense, just pave the country with solar panels and pave the abundant oceans that surround the UK island-nation with windmills ... AI problem solved ...

Over a year ago I outlined four DemoKKKrat Civil Wars, none of which they could win.

AI/Techbros vs. Green/transition was one of them. Well, here it is in full bloom in Mediocre Britain. Coming here. The green movement will flat out lose bigly as the techbros will not be denied their precious AI.
