President Vladimir Putin has presented US President Donald Trump's special envoy with an award to pass on to a senior CIA official whose son was killed fighting with Russia in Ukraine.
Putin gave the Order of Lenin to Steve Witkoff during his trip to Moscow this week to discuss a plan to end the Ukraine war, sources familiar with the matter told the BBC's US partner CBS.
Michael Gloss, 21, who was killed in Ukraine last year, was the son of Juliane Gallina, who is the CIA's deputy director for digital innovation.
Reports of the award emerged as it was confirmed that Trump and Putin will meet in Alaska next Friday to discuss the future of the war in Ukraine.
Neither the Kremlin nor Russian foreign ministry has publicly acknowledged posthumously bestowing the Order of Lenin, a Soviet-era award recognising outstanding civilian service, on Gloss.
It is unclear what was done with the award. The White House, the CIA and Witkoff did not respond to requests for comment. Gloss' death first emerged in Russian media reports in April.

Well I’ll be damned... !
Now that......was a great PR stunt!
Propaganda
Antifa!
>>Now that......was a great PR stunt!
So much more than that. Trump wants to end the killing. Putin is speaking directly to the humanitarian as man to man. Massive understanding of Trump as a person. THAT is the way to brilliant diplomacy.
This sounds more like a rumor than an actual report, being that it is according to an unnamed source, with neither the Russians nor US officials commenting.
No, Putin is sticking a knife in Trump to get the Russiahoaxers excited again and validating their theories.
Call me crazy but I think the us could benefit from cooperation with Russia on a host of issues. They are a lot more oriented towards Christianity than the rest of the EU and are a natural Ally against China. I like the fact they won’t allow children to be adopted by Pro homosexual countries like the US.
Yeh...Remember Hillary’s Reset Button...now that was really nice and we know it wasn’t a photo op or mere propaganda.
If my mom had a rebellious Red son that had gone over to the dark side to fight for them, and a US diplomat came to the house to deliver an Order of Lenin...she would take the award and stick it so far up the deliverer’s backside that a surgeon would need both hands and a flashlight to find it again.
He served with Russian forces.
I have as much respect for someone fighting and dying for Russia as I do if they fought and died for Ukraine.
Useless. Stupid. Reminds me of St. Pancake.

Totally agree. And perhaps an agreement could have been reached in the early 1990s. But that ship has sailed. NATO has been provocative since then. And Putin has been sending tanks across sovereign borders.
Hard to reach an agreement when there are nothing but fools on each side.
Sorry but how does she keep her clearance?
And did she accept the award?
