AI will assess whether an account belongs to an adult or a teen.
YouTube is going to start relying on AI to determine whether or not an account belongs to a teen or an adult, and take actions as a result. In a recent blog post, YouTube announced machine learning would "interpret a variety of signals that help us to determine whether a user is over or under 18".
If the AI believes the account is being operated by a teen, it will automatically apply age-appropriate protections, including:
Disabling personalized advertising
Turning on digital wellbeing tools
Adding safeguards to recommendations, including limiting repetitive views of some kinds of content.
With AI doing the heavy lifting there's always the possibility it gets something wrong and accidentally flags an adult user as a teen. At which point, the safeguards will click on like a key in the lock and that account holder will have to prove their age.
YouTube says that in such cases a credit card or government ID will be needed to verify the user is over 18. Until that step has been completed, they won't be able to watch any age-restricted content.

What about us old folks who are starting to get “childish”?
AI is already recording everything you say through your digital devices and saving it to text files for easy search. That’s how Alexa works. That’s how they are going to implement this age verification thing, by analyzing what you say.

Set your channel to “children’s content” and you will still get some AI generated but it will be closer to pet ads than porn.

AI is now smarter than we are... So if you are an adult and want to get childish you have to prove you are an adult first.
There is no way I would even entertain compliance to this concept. They can take a hike ans hove their crap... Unfortunately there are enough idiots out there who will comply and this will create an industry trend and all domains will be doing it.
Many of us warned about this micromanagement years ago...
AI screws up a lot when I ask chemistry questions. Sometimes you correct it and it realizes the error.
It is not the problem of recording, it is the problem with having to provide them with an ID or a Credit Card. Why anyone would even comply to this is beyond me. With facial recognition and security issues because they now have it in their system it would be extremely stupid to comply. And worse yet it approves the concept and then it will spread across the whole industry everywhere.
Telling Uranus jokes will almost certainly get you marked as adolescent by the AI.

Yesterday, I clicked on the Car Shield website to see what they charged for car warranty insurance. Of course, they provided no such information.
I clicked off the website and within seconds I received an email from Car Shield.
In order to get off the internet grid, it appears we will have to revert to smoke signals.

And that is the problem right there. And they will hide behind the AI to justify controlling content even if the AI makes mistakes. They might even rig it to make mistakes on purpose so they can gather info on EVERYONE. It is Google/Alphabet...
This is a fishing trip and data mining operation for private user data. The AI will be given the benefit of the doubt before the user is. The AI is right until you prove it wrong by giving them information they have no right to log into their system.
Seriously, anyone who falls for this scam is absolutely stupid...

I’m not sure of that. AI has more information than we do. “Smart” is the ability to take information and turn it into knowledge, to understand the information and combine the pieces of information in a useful way. AI can do that sometimes, but I’m not sure it can do it reliably.

Actually there are indeed underground options that will soon become important and needed. I have been playing with those options for several years now. You can actually build secure underground networks and they can’t do anything about it.

They are already giving AI the benefit of the doubt over humans even when it is wrong. They are going to trust the AI and hide behind AI decisions right or wrong. It is great “plausible deniability” for them.
