The Left's fatal humor deficit.
Left-wing comedy, especially late-night shows, took another hit recently when Paramount’s CBS canceled the Late Show and its host Stephen Colbert, whose pathetic ratings were nowhere near worth the millions of dollars the show has been burning through for years. The Dems’ press-agent media, of course, have been parroting Colbert’s claim that Paramount is carrying water for President Trump, the prime target of Colbert’s juvenile, humorless insults.
In reality, the show had a staff of 200, cost $100 million annually to produce, and lost $40 million a year. You don’t have to be Adam Smith to figure out why the show was cancelled. Once again, terminal Trump Derangement Syndrome has added another lefty Democrat comic to its growing casualty list.
More important, however, is why lefty comics and leftists in general are so unfunny? The answer is suggested by my title. Readers of a certain age, i.e. old, may remember where it comes from. Back in the Sixties and Seventies, there was a popular gag called “lightbulb jokes,” based on the question, “How many [fill in ethnic group, sex, profession etc.] does it take to screw in a lightbulb?” The punchline was something humorous, insulting, and satiric.
The feminist version started circulating about the same time, just when equity feminism had shifted from a movement for equal opportunity and rights, to its current Nurse Ratched version––a humorless, bossy, whiny, arrogant, leftwing, alpha-male-hating iteration of identity politics based on perpetual grievance and victimhood marinated in aggressive ressentiment. The joke goes like this: “How many feminists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?” The feminists’ punchline was always “That’s not funny!”
This tagline captures well the left’s humor deficit, which worsened with smug, self-righteous identity politics that flourished with “wokeism” and reflects the nature of Marxism––which is...

Step Incoleburnt should have never has a show he stunk fron the get go all left pimp.
But the point is that there is very few things put out that are intended to be funny and actually are.
Most things that are called humor any more is actually snark. And snark is only funny for a bit before it bores.
Fun and laughter is necessary for humans. If we discard it we become gray and depressed. Which seems to have been what happened.
Excellent article! Thanks for posting it...
Tyrannys allways make it illegal to make fun of the powerful.
How many (Ted) Kennedys does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Two. One to hold the bulb, and one to drink whisky until the room spins.
Another said it was the last time he had heard that much laughter at a movie was “Shaun of the Dead”. Which I have not seen so I have no idea if it is funny or not.
Yes it’s funny. It’s by the same people who made the movie “Hot Fuzz”, which to me now, is the funniest movie I’ve ever seen.
I saw a promo where Liam is reading a convict’s criminal record and he pronounces manslaughter as man’s laughter and the black criminal corrects him.
Not that is FUNNY.
Such wordplay is right out of the Marx Brother’s and W C Field’s school of comedy.
Might go see it next week.
.
Left wing comedy? Non existent.
Politics killed off Late Night and I mean all of late night. All of them are basically the same and its boring. Listening to Trump bad is something you can get on any other news channel.
The networks are to blame because they hired these guys knowing what they were going to do was alienate over half your audience right away. Even though many may agreed with their politics, that is not what they watched late night shows for.
Pretty soon, all of them will be gone and they will lose a valuable source to promote their TV shows, movies, and other entertainment.
In the end, the fault is the ones who hired them. Tens of billions wasted in the last 10 years pushing agendas to transform America and now it was for nothing.
What is amazing is that no one at the network said, we got to cut the budget before now. No way that show should get close to 100 million in a year in expenses.
The fact that many of those 200 weren’t let go even NOW, is a sign that they just like losing money.
The previews for the new movie do look really funny. I plan to see it.
Funny, I didn’t care for either one of those movies. I guess I’m not a fan of dry Brit humor, although I loved Monty Python’s flying circus but couldn’t stand Benny Hill show.
I’m weird I suppose.
