The Sydney Sweeney magic has worked greatly in favor of the denim brand American Eagle. On July 23rd, the outfitters launched a new campaign starring the Anyone but You actress. And the result? Their stock prices soared through the roof in the last few days. This isn’t the first time that a business has benefited from its collaboration with Sweeney.
It has been the brand’s most expensive campaign yet, and Sweeney came on board as an ambassador. The young actress posed for a few shots, highlighting the new line of denim. The company knew that she had the power to make a hot sale, but never did they imagine that their market cap would be up by $400 million in just a day.
Even Wall Street brokers will be scratching their heads as they see the Sweeney effect on American stocks. The announcement of the campaign was made on Wednesday, and it created enough hype on all social platforms. At the NYSE, American Eagle Outfitters Inc. saw the share price go from $10 to almost $12 by the time the market closed.
That’s a 17% rise in the share price, which took the company to a $2 billion venture for the first time in months. The prices came down by 4% on Thursday, but the market cap is still up by millions of dollars.
American Eagle CMO Craig Brommers called its fall ad campaign the company’s “Super Bowl". It was the retailer’s most expensive campaign, not surprising given that they brought Sydney Sweeney as a brand ambassador. As part of the campaign, the brand released the video, Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.
The Euphoria star appeared in a steamy look for the brand. She wore a limited-edition denim jacket and a wide-leg jeans called the Sydney Jean for the campaign. Sweeney helped design her namesake jean with the help of her long-time collaborator Molly Dickson. The jean has a butterfly embroidered on their back pocket, which represents domestic violence awareness.
She also appeared in a white t-shirt and double-waisted jeans. The brand also made the announcement that the proceeds from these limited-edition items went to Crisis Text Line, a nonprofit providing 24/7 mental health support. Sweeney shared in a statement,
While her denim brand campaign was more conventional, Sydney Sweeney had a crazy way to promote the personal care brand Dr. Squatch. She collaborated with the brand to sell soaps that had her bathwater among their ingredients. The brand shot to fame after the products went viral globally.
The campaign brought an unconventional marketing technique by tapping into celebrity fetish. Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss sold out thousands of bars in just a matter of hours. The actress signed on to the brand as an ambassador in 2024. After its celebrity collaboration, the brand reached an acquisition deal with British consumer giant Unilever.
And it’s not a paltry sum. It was revealed that Unilever paid $1.5 billion for the acquisition of Dr. Squatch. Unilever shared in a statement:
"Its viral social-first marketing strategies, partnerships with influencers and celebrities, and culturally-relevant collaborations with limited-edition packs have helped to drive sales and grow a loyal consumer following on social media platforms and beyond."
It appears that having Sweeney as the face of your company is your golden ticket. It is unknown whether Sweeney has negotiated a renewed contract with Unilever. While Sweeney’s earnings from these brand deals are not publicly available, Celebrity Net Worth estimated her net worth to be $40 million.
crusty and old
so anything that you can outrun looks good to you
am i right?
Wow, beautiful women sell products. Who knew?
ruined a perfectly good thread
what is wrong with you
Tranheuser Busch will not recover.
I looked at those pictures and I agree with you. I imagine she could look pretty if she cleaned up her hair and smiled.
Sex sells.
Nothing wrong with that.
When I think American Eagle, I think of an airline. When did it become jeans?
LOL! My bad.
Funny, I found that pic by googling "woke ads". The resolution was poor so I thought, "I should find one with better resolution."
And then I thought, "No. That's not necessary."
Well, I'd better redeem myself. The Sydney Sweeney bikini pics are probably too risque for FR so here's the lovely Miss Sweeney turning a wrench.
LOL.
I see what you are doing there and you are NOT wrong....
Compared to most everything I see on my daily adventures, she rocks.
If beautiful women are back in, then help is on the way.
Well, I may be crusty but I ain’t that old.
I had to look her up; didn’t even know her. Sure is nothing special.
Any statistics on how much the advertisement has improved sales?
And considering the target consumer are women, does this ad echo with them?
She was very good in Season One of The White Lotus. She kept her clothes on, save for a few scenes in a bikini top (they were at a tropical resort, after all).
She can act.
I've been meaning to check out the film where she plays national security leaker Reality Winner. She's glammed down quite a bit for that role.
