The façade of a Queens building collapsed onto the sidewalk and the road in Queens on Wednesday.
Two kids and a 25-year-old man were sent to the hospital for injuries after approximately 60 feet of the structure collapsed, according to the FDNY.
Images from the scene show debris pouring out onto Jericho Turnpike in Bellrose, including the overhang, cement blocks and other material. Multiple cars were also hit with the debris.
One of the kids, 11, was treated for back pain. The other, 13, was treated for leg pain. They were both in one of the cars struck by the falling structure, according to police.
The man was treated for back pain, police said. All three are reportedly in stable condition.
A witness who claims to be the owner of Plaza Furniture, which is the business the façade fell from, said he had just walked into his store when the collapse occurred.

Back pain, back pain, and leg pain. That sounds believable. Judging from the pictures, the concrete bounced off the Jeep. Looks like the passenger side window cracked a little bit. It looks like the FD EMS folks are preparing to backboard someone. The use of backboards was deemphasized 12 years ago. I’m glad they’re all okay.
Yes, it looks like on awful lot of weight on a metal stud wall, I wonder if the screws they used to attach it rusted away.

The city inspectors know that failing an old building means the end of not just the current business, but that the cost to bring the building up to code exceeds what the landlord could charge in rent, effectively ending the financial gain for the city, and increasing the likelihood that the city will become the owner of another abandoned property.
