Senate Republicans Sabotage $400 Million of Trump’s Anti-Woke Cuts
The Washington Stand ^ | July 17, 2025 | Suzanne Bowdy

For a party with such distrust in the mainstream media, Republicans certainly put a lot of stock in the headlines about PEPFAR. While thousands of people would most certainly not die from the targeted cuts to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, Senate Republicans are determined to keep throwing taxpayer dollars at the Democrats’ woke programs in the name of “foreign aid.”

In a blow to Donald Trump’s goal to end government bloat and abuse, moderate senators — led by Susan Collins (R-Maine) — threw a tantrum over the White House’s plan to shave a fraction ($400 million) of PEPFAR’s annual $7.1 billion bucket without ever reading what the cuts actually were. The casualties weren’t life-saving care, treatment, education, and training, as administration officials repeatedly tried to point out. They were course corrections from Joe Biden’s outrageous African expansion into radical LGBT and abortion advocacy.

“We’ve got some weak knees up here,” Senator Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) shook his head... Look, Marshall insisted, “I have all the compassion in the world for people with AIDS. I want to do everything we can to help those folks. But again, we’re already giving them $7 billion a year, and we wanted to cut out some of this waste, fraud, abuse, as we just described.”

“Five percent is all President Trump was asking to be cut from this. And it’s not in the direct aid of the drugs and the essential resources needed to treat AIDS. [These are], as you pointed out, frivolous, wasteful programs.” And even if, Marshall interjected, you were determined to spend that $400 million in these countries, there are a lot better ways to do it. “The poor kids are dying because they don’t have clean water. [That] would be a better use of this money…”

USA can barely afford to sustain social security and other benefits for our own citizens as is…and no wonder.

Meanwhile numerous veterans continue to go ignored as they sleep on the streets…And what achievements exactly, does the woke left have to show for abroad in recent years anyway? 🙄

Same as the Ryan RINOs of 2017.

GOPe/RINOs/uniparty is the reason we can’t have nice things. I’ve despised them for almost 50 years.

We’ve got to end so much give away and waste! no wonder Musk was disgusted. 5% and they scream bloody murder. EVERY gov’t dept should be required to cut 10% per year until our debt is erased!

Much of that money is no doubt dark money. Money that is shuffled around and fins its way back to politicians and democrat NGO’s.

I’ve always thought it would be better to give veterans a credit. In a perfect world we’d tax people who did not serve in uniform as they do in Switzerland, but a tax credit would accomplish the same thing.

This is really pathetic.

For the first time in many decades, a bill was passed rescinded previously authorized spending.

So instead of an article celebrating this accomplishment - and the fact that it just happened at all - we get an article acting like it was an abject failure and we didn’t get anything we wanted because the bill could have cut $9.6 billion but instead it “only” cut $9.2 billion?

You are never going to get Congress to cut funding. The only power they have is to spend money, and they aren’t going to give that up.

They literally just did cut funding. By over $9 billion dollars.

Like a bad dream...
We are reliving the years 2017-2020, with the GOP consistently stabbing the GOP President in the back...

In all my years, I cannot remember a single instance when a communist was in the WH and the Senate was communist controlled, that the President was stabbed in the back by his comrades in the Senate...

If the republican Congress both house and senate, stopped stabbing the president in the BACK they’d have nothing to do.
