Craft breweries outrage parents by BANNING children...as owners reveal families' most entitled behavior
Daily Mail UK ^ | July 19, 2025 | Jenson Bird

In many communities across the US, breweries have become a sort of a 'third-space' for locals and their families.

The current status quo is the natural progression of the craft beer craze of the 2010s, as many of its enthusiasts age into parenthood.

And while many breweries continue to welcome children, a growing number say they have been forced to ban kids due to their rowdy behavior.

The decision has sparked outrage among busy parents, who say child-friendly policies allow them to continue to enjoy some of the same activities as during their kid-free days.

But owners say their breweries have become chaotic spaces, with waiters forced to become babysitters and safety a bigger concern than it was ever supposed to be.

As a result, many have decided to limit when and where children can visit their establishments and sometimes if they can visit them at all.

Forest City Brewery in Cleveland, Ohio has decided to ban children under the age of 16 altogether, prompting an outcry from some of its patrons.

The founder, Jay Demagall, told the New York Times that egregious behavior motivated the decision, detailing some of the worst examples.

“I’ve witnessed a mother CHANGE A DIAPER on top of an empty table next to hers!”

I hear this complaint a lot. Usually the moms say “there is no changing table in the women’s room”. Well there was none when I was a baby. Our moms either changed us in the car or had a changing mat in the diaper bag. Mom would lay the mat on the floor in the bathroom and change us on the mat. Then later clean that mat with Lysol.

“I like beer as much as the next guy. But I cannot imagine that these places are going to stay in business in such a small, concentrated market.”

they’re NOT staying in business: as you point out, they’re grossly overbuilt, plus secular market changes are adding to their woes, namely their former beer-swilling yuppie clientele are growing up and moving on, and the next generation are hooked on Zima-like alcoholic, flavored water ... the result is a YUGE shakeout for this “industry” ...

My observation is that more than a few parents today really don’t give a crap how disruptive their little brats are in public. Whether it’s a restaurant, brewery, or church, they let them run wild, scream like banshees and have absolutely no consideration for anyone else.

It’s becoming rare to see parents actually controlling their kids in public.

When our daughter was a baby and used a high chair, when we went to a restaurant we carried a newspaper with us and spread it on the floor under the high chair. At the end of the meal we rolled up the newspaper so that no one had to clean anything off the floor.

I was at Sam's Club this morning and watched the children of several parents run amok, screaming and tearing things up. Young people generally have NO manners or discipline anymore and yet they blame ‘boomers’ for everything. My Mother would have gone up beside my head so fast.....

The last time I saw a “well behaved kid” I was on Amtrak. These were Amish kids and I mean really the Amish too. I was so shocked that when I got off at my last stop I said something to two Amish parents at how well their kids behaved. They thanked me.

This type of behavior is everywhere. Bunch of poorly educated self entitled awful parents. No real values, just everybody oohing and ahhing over virtue signaling AI stories.
These people were spoiled and they do not want to be bother by their own kids.

And kids don’t belong in a bar. Probably neither do the parents.

But you see this everywhere including places that don’t serve alcohol.

“I was in Burlington VT a couple of weeks ago. I was stunned at the number of “craft” breweries. “

Just saw a story this morning bemoaning the fact that there aren’t enough African American craft breweries. If you can believe it. White people won’t let them use the national parks and now we’re keeping them from brewing beer.

I don’t believe kids belong in a bar and I’m shocked the ABCC permits this.

A co worker of my wife married one of the founders of one of Tree House out here in Western MA. They started it in the garage of one of their friends. That company not only produced good beer, they built their breweries into “DisneyLand-like” destinations throughout MA.

I interviewed for a job there once. I had zero chance of getting it, but I wanted to meet these people and see their operations. The management were some of the most “focused” people i had ever met in my life. I got the impression that they worked 100 hours a week….But they had a vision and they were going to be successful.

That was very early in their growth. They are all multi millionaires now. I am sure their success is studied at all of the major Business schools.

They were early, good, focused, and disciplined. That is the basis for success anywhere.

And they welcome kids and families.

Yep, why the pubs have rules - not for kids, by law.

It’s also a reminder to the adults that there’s ‘adult activities’ that should be kept from kids.

Legally, under 16’s can’t go inside, 18 to buy a drink...even if that isn’t strictly adhered to, young kids aren’t seen inside.
