NATIONAL MOON DAY

National Moon Day on July 20 commemorates the day man first walked on the moon in 1969. NASA reported the moon landing as being โ€œ...the single greatest technological achievement of all time.โ€

#NationalMoonDay

On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 carried the first humans to the moon. Six hours after landing on the moon, American Neil Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface. He spent two and a half hours outside the spacecraft. Buzz Aldrin soon followed, stepping onto the lunar surface. After joining Armstrong, the two men collected 47.5 pounds of lunar material. Their specimens would make the journey back to Earth to be analyzed.

In the command module, a third astronaut waited. Pilot, Michael Collins, remained alone in orbit until Armstrong and Aldrin returned.

Caught up in the thrill of the adventure, millions of Americans watched the mission from Earth. Televisions around the world tuned in to the live broadcasts. The astronauts had a worldwide audience. As a result, all witnessed as Armstrong stepped onto the moon's surface and described the event as "one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind."

Wiki-
“Fly Me to the Moon”, originally titled “In Other Words”, is a song written in 1954 by Bart Howard. The first recording of the song was made in 1954 by Kaye Ballard. Frank Sinatra’s 1964 version was closely associated with the Apollo missions to the Moon.

Frank cover is the better than the original.

July 20 is also the day that Nazi officers tried to kill Adolf Hitler and take control of Germany in 1944. Just sayin...

Did they find Alice Kramden? Was it cut from the footage?

Will it show up on the deleted scenes section of the moon landing?

My mom was furious with my dad because he went to Sears and put a color tv on their credit card just so he could watch this historic event in color...those that remember...it was mostly black and white on film....lol

I was a teenager and our whole family was glued to the tv for it all...and we ended up loving the new tv.

1969—what a year—started Junior High in September of that year at Walter T Helms JR. High School in Richmond, CA. (And that is another story)

July 20th and the Moon. All of us were following Apollo 11—who could miss it. Humanity was going to the Moon! What an achievement. We had Tang! The drink that the Astronauts drank โ„ข We had those tubes of sugary protein in foil, sort of like a licorice stick in choclate and peanut butter...Again, something the astronauts ate in space...

It all so new, wonderful and ... thrilling...anything was possible.

Don't touch the moon; I need it for loving.
Don't touch the stars; I need them, too.

Years later Walter Cronkite was asked and said he considered the Moon landing to be the most important historical event of his lifetime.

Notice he was gone before the Taylor Swift Eras tour.

I was thinking something entirely different. When I was about 25 around 1975, I was on my way to work when a school bus loaded with cheer leaders entered the road and was in front of me. All of the cheer leaders in the back of the bus mooned me. What an unforgettable sight, I almost ran off the road. I tried to get on the road at the same time, but never saw the bus again. Pity.
