The WNBA has enjoying an historic surge in popularity and revenue over the past year for a litany of reasons. Now the players are hoping to cash in with a new collective bargaining agreement.
Unfortunately for the players, that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. Talks have stalled between the WNBA and the players' union, leaving the threat of a lockout or a strike on the not-too-distant horizon if a new CBA can't be hammered out soon.
Amid the stalled talks, the WNBA players decided to protest the league's unwillingness to bend to their demands. At the WNBA All-Star Game today, the players came out onto the court wearing black t-shirts that said "Pay Us What You Owe Us."
The message was heard loud and clear by fans. Unfortunately for the players, the response has been pretty overwhelmingly negative. It has long been asserted that the WNBA has been operating a loss for decades and has never turned a profit.
So when fans saw players protesting their pay, many laughed at them and pointed out that the WNBA doesn't even have the money to give them any higher salaries to begin with.
"Name another multi-million dollar business that has been around since 1996 and NEVER turned even $1 in profit. In 29 years. I'll be waiting," one user declared.
"When will they pay the NBA what they owe them?? This league would’ve gone bankrupt long ago without the NBA losing money to keep them afloat," wrote another.
"The league loses 40 million a year so the players are lucky to get paid any money at all to play," a third mocked.

Well, it's not sustainable because CC is constantly injured. So at this rate, she'll be forced to retire.

I agree with the players. The owners should pay them what they are worth. Unfortunately for the players, there are minimum wage laws in this country which makes paying them what they are worth illegal.
