Stephen Colbert gets solidarity from fellow late-night hosts after cancellation news

Stephen Colbert was receiving messages of support and affection from his fellow late-night hosts after announcing that CBS was canceling his show, “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” next May. Jimmy Fallon said he was “just as shocked as everyone,” and Seth Meyers called him a great host and comedian but an even better person. Jimmy Kimmel directed an expletive at CBS, and Andy Cohen said it was a sad day for the network. As for President Donald Trump — a frequent target of Colbert’s comedy — he said on Truth Social that “I absolutely love” that Colbert was “fired.”

Some of the reaction from the late-night world:

Jimmy Fallon

“I’m just as shocked as everyone. Stephen is one of the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it. I really thought I’d ride this out with him for years to come. I’m sad that my family and friends will need a new show to watch every night at 11:30.” — the NBC “Tonight Show” host, on Instagram

Seth Meyers

“For as great a comedian and host (as) he is, @stephenathome is an even better person. I’m going to miss having him on TV every night but I’m excited he can no longer use the excuse that he’s ‘too busy to hang out’ with me.” — the NBC “Late Night” host, on Instagram

Jimmy Kimmel

“Love you Stephen.” — the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host, on Instagram

Andy Cohen

“It is a very sad day for CBS that they are getting out of the late-night race. I mean, they are turning off the lights after the news.” — the “Watch What Happens Live” host, in an interview.

This is how it works when you get laid off. And everyone else is afraid they’re next.🤣

they no longer have funding from the US taxpayer via USAid...

Looked it up: Cohen makes $10 million, the other 3 about $15M each. Perhaps they be willing to pool $20 million to make up half the deficit CBS is running on Colbert’sshow. If they did that I bet CBS would kick in the other half and Colbert could stay on the air

How sad that none of the correspondents offered any suggestions on how to stop losing 40 Million dollars per year. That would have been useful.

Most likely what they thought was along the lines of "Glad it wasn't me. (YET)"

Colbert had a staff of 200 and burned thru $100 million per year - it was wholly a Democrat political propaganda operation. With the Democrat brand sinking to 19% approval, it had become an atrocious waste of money

Yes, very uncharacteristic. I’m sure he had something to say but maybe it wasn’t worth noting (didn’t follow the narrative).

At $20 mil per year, the unemployed colbert will be almost as rich as pretend socialist bernie sanders.

“Colbert had a staff of 200...”

With only 26 on her staff, michelle obama turns green with envy.

Then they can share their pay with him.

And hire his 200 staffers.

Crocodile tears. They’ll be climbing over each other to grab a slice of his ever-dwindling audience to try to keep their own Democrat megaphone shows on the air.
