LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WTVM) - More than 40 undocumented workers were found in multiple locations, including restaurants in Auburn and Opelika, during federal raids, and one immigration attorney shares the next steps in this case.
Cesar Campos-Reyes, a local restaurant owner, is in custody after allegedly defrauding the government.
On Tuesday, ICE agents joined other agencies in raiding 14 locations across Alabama, including eight restaurants. They discovered drugs, firearms, and nearly fifty people in the country illegally.
“Agents encountered more than 40 persons illegally in the country. Those persons have been detained,” said Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson during a press conference.
ICE New Orleans Field Office Director Brian Acuna said those detained will remain in Alabama facilities before facing potential deportation.
“The individuals that you asked about are currently in ICE News Orleans Field Office custody. They’re gonna be detained in some of our detention facilities here in the state of Alabama, and from there they’re gonna go through the due process that’s owed to them in their individual circumstances,” he said.
Immigration Attorney Safiya Byras is based in Atlanta. She described what the due process looks like for individuals being detained.
“So, the first scenario is someone that’s detained, but they have a pending immigration application with USCIS. If someone like that is detained, the usual course of action is that they’re then placed in the deportation proceedings because ICE is really a police arm of immigration. They’re not actually reviewing cases,” said Byras.
According to her, those without a pending application will likely be recommended for an expedited deportation.
“If someone is in the U.S. illegally, they have no pending immigration status, which means there’s nothing. They don’t qualify for anything. You’re just here without status, illegal.

But, but, but-—we are told continually that the Biden immigrants are only hard working people who fled persecution in their home country.
I don’t know why we’re importing people to come here and defraud the government.
We got plenty of home-grown crooks in Alabama as it is.
The ICE men come, and they all go home.
A pretty good story except for the use of the term "undocumented workers" instead of "illegal alien workers".
” They discovered drugs,...”
Curious about the quantity of drugs. If you search the kitchen/wait staff at practically any restaurant you will probably find some drugs.
ICE agents morale must be through the roof
There are a few more articles on FR posted in last few days. There were very large sums of money and enough drugs to suggest cartel activity PLUS the main guy here committed PPP fraud. Two of these restaurants are very near to me.
As it should be.
I’m trying to find an estimate of how many people have to go with each wage earner deported.
Guessing the family has to go as well.
Adios putos! Vete a casa! So long guys! GO HOME!!
