Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White addressed the constant physicality star guard Caitlin Clark continues to face in the league after Clark went down with what appeared to be a groin injury during Tuesday night’s win over the Connecticut Sun.
Speaking to reporters after the 85-77 win. White was asked about her thoughts on the "physical battle" Clark has faced – both throughout the season and in Tuesday’s game.
"Are you trying to get me fined again?" White asked with a laugh, before expanding on her answer.
"There’s a level of physicality that they’re able to play with against her. I knew it as an opponent, and I see it as her coach. I’m not exactly sure why, it just is what it is," she said. "We’ve got to help her learn to adjust and use it against them in certain ways. We’ve got to find some ways to make it a little easier for her."
Admittedly, White added that the WNBA as a whole has seen more physical play on the court than ever before.

CC will be forced to retire. The NBA is not going to want to continue subsidizing the WNBA.
Their trajectory is similar to NASL, fans stopped watching after Pelè retired.
It's all part of TODAY'S WNBA ALLOWING, what I call, "LADIES' THUG BALL"
That sounds as if you may be TOTALLY CORRECT about the oncoming fate of the WNBA.
I can tell you that I DO NOT WATCH the Indiana Fever if CAITLIN CLARK is NOT in the starting lineup and CANNOT play.
Same here. Everyone is saying that.
No one can stand watching the WNBA if she's not playing.
One would normally attribute such a statement to a black woman. But you’d be wrong.
If this woman had any ego strength she would ditch the wnba and go play in europe somewhere. I know she’s a great basketballer but I have no respect for her submitting to this kind of degrading abuse.
There’s more punches thrown and more hair pulling in Today’s WNBA than in Roller Derby !
Caitlin should talk with one of her Biggest Fans, maybe over a Pizza and consider starting a New Women’s League !
For Actual women only. I think her Superfan could call a few friends and put the funding together practically overnight.
“Why do you believe the Indiana Fever coach?”
Who says I did? I gave the readers a little personal history and observation of professional basketball as I started watching it, and in time officiating it, in the 1950’s. There has been a transformation of all sports in their efforts to satisfy the needs of the paying public and the WNBA along with their previous failed women’s pro leagues are part of that transformation. And I think they have taken a page out of the NBA work to try to make their product as financial rewarding as they can.
I just think they were premature in their execution. They came up with a player that entertained and filled seats so now they have to have an opponent to be hated in the same way the NBA accomplishes it’s work. So there is one or two at every arena waiting on the opportunity to accost her. But the NBA has about 50 years of evolution on them and has created teams and players like this both ways on most teams. And every team has an established star...at least one to beat on. Rome had the Flavian Amphitheatre in Rome.

No idea what you’re trying to say.
I totally agree with you.
I don't see that happening. The only reason the WNBA have eyeballs is because of CC. I think what is more likely is she would move into college coaching if she gets too banged up to play. A top 20 college women's BB coach can make over a $1M a year.
And they have their $#it together in college basketball.
The WNBA is political. And it's a weird clique and they don't want CC to be in it even though they're making money off her.
Clark needs to start sitting out games, costing them some money.
The WNBA is an anti-trans league which I found oddly ironic
I have to admit I didn’t even know the WNBA was a sports organization until CC sparked some interest and made the news.
You and everyone else, it's a big club.
She should shut down for the season.
“No idea what you’re trying to say.”
Many people are trying to say this is a racial thing. It first came out when she was not invited to the Olympic tryouts. Others say it is jealousy and resentment.
Some observers suggest a degree of resentment from some veteran players towards Clark due to her immense popularity, endorsement deals, and the media attention she receives.
There have been problems from many about officiating concerns. There have been complaints about the officiating, with some feeling that Clark isn’t receiving adequate protection from referees, and opponents are getting away with fouls against her. So it gives the league a problem even though I think they invited it just like they did in the NBA starting in the mid to late 50’s when the first of the real violence came out with the signing of Bill Russell. He got hammered and ejected a number of times in his first couple of years.
But the league started using the violence as a normality and as each team started to feature particular players the league only protected them with not fouling them out even though they were just as violent as the people that used an enforcer to belt them.
When the WNBA goes down the road, if it remains financially sound, and more players get into different teams and the league sets loose the thugs to hammer them, it will become common place just like it did in the NBA which has nothing to do anymore with the game and the talent of the player performing. It’s just a combatives within the out of bound lines and sometime outside them. So as the women got bigger, faster, stronger, and were able to dunk, all that was left is the violence to cash in on the NBA’s financial format. Clark is the first of that breed.
But people were asking why it was happening. And saying it just is what it is is not explaining why. It’s hiding the plan with double talk.

They got rid of it in the NBA (Jordan's rules) but they refuse to do the same in the WNBA.
