The Department of Justice has called on the Supreme Court to reject an appeal by Ghislaine Maxwell to overturn her conviction.
Maxwell was convicted in 2021 over her links to Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy financier who died by suicide in jail in August 2019, weeks after his arrest on sex trafficking charges. Maxwell was sentenced for recruiting Epstein's victims and is serving a 20-year prison sentence in Tallahassee, Florida.
In April, Maxwell submitted a plea to the Supreme Court to overturn her conviction. She said she was covered by a non-prosecution agreement made between Epstein and the U.S. government in 2007 regarding his other co-conspirators.
But the DoJ argued in a new filing that Maxwell should not be covered by the agreement.
