The work isn’t being done to speed Chinese tourists to Disney World.
I’m pretty sure the Chinese military has plans for the engine.

According to researchers, this approach could achieve up to 80% energy conversion efficiency, And to hell with the laws of thermodynamics ...

Yes, in two hours. But, unfortunately, it gets hungry for more fuel in an hour.

Until I see it operation then it’s BS like everything our of China.
Next is the statement..”if successfully integrated into commercial aircraft”
No existing commercial aircraft airframe could handle a hyper-sonic engine.

I dind't know this but BOOM says "The first assembly line will produce 33 Overture supersonic aircraft annually. A planned second assembly line will double aircraft production to 66 each year."
"Overture’s order book stands at 130 aircraft, including orders and pre-orders from American Airlines, United Airlines, and Japan Airlines."
Overture, 60-80 passengers.

Sure, sure, the engine can provide sufficient thrust to propel an aircraft at 12,000 mph.
Do they have an airframe that can survive those forces/stresses? Dinna think so.

I wouldn’t even go on an escalator built by red Chin let alone a hyper sonic jet

The biggest challenge in checkrides is maneuvers at just above stall speed in slow flight. Toss in a little uncoordinated bank and you can wrap up in a spin in a microsecond. Imagine an airframe that would be needed to fly in controlled flight at 12,000 MPH and at 125KTS to land safely?

“If successfully integrated into commercial aircraft”
Requires a large aircraft that can safely use that power. Such flight is not the same as that of missiles, which so far have been the only objects with sustained hypersonic flight.

Yeah. No.
Developing an engine with that kind of scoot is only a fraction of the figuring.

Another example demonstrating how our government top science labs, like Los Alamos National Laboratory, have OBVIOUSLY been off on many “woke” missions delivering next to nothing lately (for years) in major advancements.
Los Alamos needs whole new leadership and direction on a “Manhattan Project” scale and time frame.

What are they going to make the airframe out of? The SR71 at mach5 could barely handle the heat.

As for the rest: Meh. Build it, fly it, and stay within noise regs while you’re at it.
