Three-quarters of Trump voters support more sanctions on Russia: new poll

Three-quarters of the Americans who voted for President Trump in 2024 are backing further economic sanctions on Russia as it continues its war against Ukraine, a new poll shows.

The Vandenberg Coalition in late June found that around 77% of Trump voters viewed Russia as a threat, 75% backed additional sanctions, and 70% said it was “vital to prevent Russia from invading other European nations,” according to results obtained exclusively by The Post.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) revealed Sunday that Trump had given him the go-ahead on a bill he introduced to tighten sanctions on Moscow.

“If you’re buying products from Russia and you’re not helping Ukraine, then there’s a 500% tariff on your products coming to the United States,” Graham said of his proposal on ABC News‘ “This Week.”

“India and China buy 70% of Putin’s oil. They keep his war machine going,” he said, noting that his measure, which has more than 80 co-sponsors, “would allow the president to put tariffs on China and India and other countries to get them, stop them from supporting Putin’s war machine and get them to the table.

“[Trump] has a waiver; it’s up to him how to impose it,” the South Carolina Republican added. “We’re going to give President Trump a tool in the toolbox that he doesn’t have, after the July break.”

But they don’t support more US tax payer dollars for Ukraine.
Right now more US sanctions against Russia are irrelevant

Trump sanctions will be Trump sanctions, not Biden sanctions.

Gee Marcus, don't you think you are overly obsessed with this topic? Who the hell is paying you? Are you even American? Please post a copy of your birth certificate.

You are either in the pay of a foreign government, or you are bat ship crazy.

The Trump ‘bull’ (and the USA) might get tossed out of the ‘china’ shop by Xi.

Chinese factories need to have reliable demand so they can responsibly employ workers and efficiently utilize capital equipment.

As capital costs become more important to Chinese manufacturers needing to automate more, the ability to pay the capital costs reliably becomes important too.

If the United States wants to put economic sanctions on Russia, I won’t argue against that. I get that NATO has provoked Russia in the past. But it was Putin who sent tanks rolling across an international border.

But I am very much against secondary sections. If some third country wants to trade with Russia, it’s none of our business. We are not Big Brother to the world.

Most of us realize his frequent postings regarding Ukraine and the war.

Someone pretty much has to do it, as the war is one of the favorite topics on FR.

The arguments made on the subject of Russia and the war should stand up to bitter criticism, which is definitely the favorite thing to utter on FR.

You may now resume “fighting in the War Room”.

Biden already kept telling us he's imposed all the toughest sanctions against Russia possible, no?

I will back whatever Trump decides. I was 100% wrong about Russia. I am ashamed to say that I truly believed that Russia was fighting a defensive war that was provoked by The West. That they wanted an end to this war once their stated goals were achieved. No NATO membership for Ukraine and the annexation of The Russian speaking provinces of Ukraine. But if that were the case, the framework for a peace deal would’ve already been inked. Trump has basically agreed to these terms. This simply hasn’t happened.

It has become clear that Russia’s stated goals for this war were a smoke screen. This war is nothing more than a bloody land grab.

Trump has threatened to impose such sanctions before.

The Russians have bought the necessary machine tools and integrated circuit making equipment already.

Cellphones are quite capable. Their integrated circuits can be repurposed. There are lots of cellphones in Russia.

Where has the EU and Ukraine agreed to Russia’s list of demands?

Totally missed that.

“Where has the EU and Ukraine agreed to Russia’s list of demands?”

Russian demands tend toward the absurd.

The Ukrainians aren’t going to sign over territory.

The Ukrainians aren’t going to allow Putin to grab more territory without extracting a heavy price in Russian blood.

The EU and US are not going to officially bless Russian seizure of land once belonging to the government in Kiev.

The Ukrainians will not accept limitations on the size of their military, especially if third party peacekeepers are not allowed to safeguard Ukraine.

What do you want, Putin?

What do you want, Zelensky?

Throw out the absurd demands.

Deal made!
