Moscow struggles with drone attacks as turmoil grips civilian aviation sector.
Russian President Vladimir Putin fired Transport Minister Roman Starovoit early Monday, according to a decree published by the Kremlin.
The government provided no official explanation for Starovoit's firing, but it comes after Ukrainian drone attacks over the weekend sparked turmoil for Russian air traffic, with stranded passengers stuck in airports as flights were canceled.
According to Russia's federal air transport agency and the Russian transport ministry, Russian airlines canceled 485 flights, while 88 flights had to be redirected and 1,900 flights were delayed in the period from Saturday to Monday.
Airlines had to issue 43,000 forced ticket refunds, accommodate 94,000 people in hotels, and provide food and drink worth 354,000 rubles (€3,800). Russian pro-government media website Kommersant reported that the transport issues will cost billions of rubles (more than €200,000).
Ukrainian drones have repeatedly forced Russia to close its airspace for civilian traffic, as Kyiv targets military plants and other sites as it looks to inflict domestic pain on Putin.

I wonder how long until Transport Minister Roman Starovoit takes his defenestration flight.
I wonder what "fired" means these days in Russia. It used to mean an all-expense paid vacation to Siberia for an unknown stay, or you just disappeared.
Lately it seems to more refer to accidentally falling out of a window in your 4 or 5 story apartment building.

Trans minister? That stuff is going around...
Funny how dissenters seem to be accident-prone.
OK....... how’s this?
The existing minister was in effect a political hack appointee who needed to be replaced by a solidly capable hands on manager. Someone was sorely needed to take hands on, in the trenches control of the extremely problematic situation
When I was in grad school (econ), our resident Soviet economics expert (Dr. Sherman) spent a year in Russia studying their 7 Year plans. He got to know the Russian who was in charge of the Moscow-Vladivostok rail line. He was coming up to the end of the Plan’s period, but the ton-miles number was way below his quota. Rather than face banishment to Siberia, he loaded up hundreds of gondola cars with rocks and ran them back-and-forth between the two cities. Because bureaucrats didn’t care about what was being shipped...just the quota, he avoid the Siberian vacation.

Startovorit should simply claim asylum in the USA.
Of course he would be denied, which is the point.
Pooty is cutting a wide swath, and he no longer can make the Russian people pretend that the Ukraine war is a little skirmish.
Think about it, Pooty is nationalizing its 3rd largest gold company, and cashing in his oligarch.
Time to whack that ruble....Trump is going to sanction the Ruskies.
Breaking reports now that Startovorit has committed suicide , shooting himself in the back of the head.

Politico, and other Western media, desperately clutching at straws, hoping that Ukraine can somehow turn the tide against the inevitable Russian victory, while Trump keeps the war going, perhaps fearing that he will be accused of “rewarding Russian aggression” if he imposes a peace agreement.
