Every time a matchup like this is done, the same results occur. “Pro” women teams get crushed by teenage boys. They also get crushed by retired guy player teams in their 50s and beyond.

Where in Switzerland is there a patch of ground flat enough to put in a soccer field?

I don’t have cable TV so any sports information is heard from local radio. I’ve noticed the past few years a push to include results of WNBA games and other female sports. Very annoying that air time is wasted on this inconsequential nonsense.

Can’t be true. The retards on the left assure us they’re equal.

Not a strong women’s team, I wonder what the outcome would be for Canada or U.S. women’s teams? I would guess much closer than 7-1 for that age group. Would probably need to use 18 to 21 year old teams to achieve that level of disparity for the stronger women’s teams.

I’ve actually played a soccer game with a top-level woman player participating, it was basically a beer league sort of setting and the woman player was at roughly an equal level to the rest of the people on the field. It was in the U.S.A. (in 1980) and the woman was on the roster of the then-current top collegiate soccer team. Now these beer league teams (the result of the game was 1-0) would both have been hard pressed to hold any sort of professional soccer team to a 10-0 outcome so I am guessing the women’s collegiate team would have been in the same ball park given that their squad member seemed to be at our level.

I think the main problem for parity of men’s and women’s soccer is average size of the players, although soccer is not necessarily dominated by large physical specimens like other sports. Men tackle a bit rougher on average too. These two factors mean that a male team keeps or obtains possession more frequently. If that were not the case, the actual skill levels with ball on ground are about the same. It’s the way in which the teams control possession that leads to the disparity. And it’s not really a knock on women’s sport, just a fact of biology (which trans athletes can perhaps erode to some extent but you have to wonder what level of male athleticism a trans athlete is bringing into women’s sport, it wouldn’t be like Team Uruguay declaring they were now women).

I also played in a game (this time in Canada) in which a ranked national team player was participating. He was a goalkeeper who thought he should grace us with his outfield play until we lobbed a 35-yard shot into his empty net. He probably didn’t do that on the national team he played with in Europe. That was the only goal we got in on him though.

Yep; I thought I’d get to see some footage of the game. I appreciate the post; but I was mistaken in my expectation.

“By next time the team will have more trans women.”

By next time the team will have more boys with miniature balls.

These are not handpicked boys from around the nation, the women’s team simply went to a boys school and played them, which is the most common way that national women’s team do it around the world when they want tough opponents for practice, and they all lose doing it.

So far ALL of the articles that I have looked out are leaving out how normal this is globally, the media is deliberately passing up an important educational opportunity that relates to the military.

“That’s why I like to let my teams play against juniors”
The Nati’s 7-1 defeat against the U15 juniors of FC Lucerne is making waves. Coach Pia Sundhage ignores all the negative comments and explains why she likes to play against boys.

Yup. The guy buried the lede a little too deeply and didn't show us enough of the game.

This sort of matchup has become a curiosity that actually does have a purpose: it matches the women against opponents than whom they are physically stronger but slower. That's hard to arrange in a training contest between peers but it does occur in tournament. The ladies aren't actually out there to score, they're out there to train.

It's sure fun to watch, though. Those little guys can fly. I was never that young...

This is why I roll my eyes when the Women’s World Cup comes around. Can the US women regain the title?

Who cares. Go watch a high school boys game; you’ll see better soccer being played.

From world champions to humbling defeat against Under 15s side... World Cup-winning USA women’s team suffer 5-2 loss against Dallas academy boys
“They were roundly outplayed, losing 5-2 against FC Dallas Under-15s academy side who took full advantage of their big day. “

Sweden’s women’s national football team suffered a crushing defeat during a friendly in Stockholm on Tuesday, with the country’s top female players finding themselves shutout by an undermanned local boys team.
The new national team coach Pia Sundhage, who returned home last year after taking charge of the US team for several years, decided to let her players tackle the male youth team for Stockholm football club AIK.
Within 30 minutes, the boys had plucked one goal from the women, despite Sundhage asking the AIK under-17 team to take out one of its defenders and play with only 10 players on the field, reports the tabloid Aftonbladet.

Australian women’s national team lose 7-0 to team of 15-year-old boys
Australia’s women’s football team are ranked the fifth best side in world football. So how did they lose 7-0 to a collection of 15-year-old boys?
It is the question gripping the Matildas, who will be targeting a medal at the Rio Olympics in August, after they were embarrassed by the Newcastle Jets under-16s side on Wednesday.

IMHO, the biggest difference between men’s and women’s soccer at elite levels — D1 college, professional, National Team, Olympic and World Cup play — comes down to leg strength.

Leg strength translates immediately into the ability to shoot effectively from distance. At elite levels, the goalkeepers are good. Unless they are screened or have come off their line, you are not going to beat them from distance unless you can fire a bullet into the corner of the net. Women simply don’t get as much power into the shot. Leg strength also affects the long passing game.

This makes the women’s game much more tactical across the field and especially in the attacking third. The women’s teams ... hold on to your seats here, spoiler alert ... work a lot harder to get a good shot. They work it in for close range shots and are more reliant on redirects at the goal mouth and set pieces. It’s like basketball used to be before the shot clock and cheap three pointer turned the greatest game ever invented turned major college and NBA basketball into garbage ball. Basketball teams used to work for the short or midrange jumpers. Now you see guys kicking the ball out or stepping back to take the three.

Scoring is low in soccer because you can’t shoot over your defender and goalkeeping is a high art. You need a direct line to shoot, and any defense that stays organized and can put a body between the ball and the goal can deny a shot. In basketball, if you don’t score in transition, you kick it back to one of your shooters who can rain threes from the parking lot. In soccer, the cheap threes are easy saves for a good keeper.

The men can fire rockets from 30 yards out. Most of the women can’t, and it changes the whole game tactically.

More broadly ... sure, the men as a group are bigger, stronger and faster, enough so that there is virtually no overlap at elite levels — not in soccer or any other sport in which size, speed and strength are factors. But in competitive men’s and women’s leagues, that equalizes. The women are competing against women, the men against men, and the sex based differences are irrelevant.

Except for leg strength, which changes the game tactically.
